1. Just how many people are we talking about? If they were
responders I assume they were firefighters and policemen. I can't believe a New York firefighter or Policeman didn't already have top notch health insurance. So what is this money for lawyers? Eight billion dollars seems to be an extremely large sum of money to me.

2. There's about a hundred thousand
And why shouldn't they be covered by the US. One person's three week stay in a hospital can cost a couple of hundred thousand, with tests and all. Many of these people helped out on their own time, after their regular jobs, so they are not covered by workers' compensation. It's not for lawyers, it's for care. Many have ongoing problems. But WTF, if they wait long enough they will all die.

I said it on the day of the attack. Bushco, Inc. doesn't care about NYC and its people, and they will let them suffer with this. Sure enough, it's being proven to be true.

3. I never imagined there were that many. But even if every
single one of them have some kind of medical problem that still comes out to $80000 each.

4. Many are dying of mesotheimeloma
The 'asbestos' cancer.

It is a horrible death, I had a close relative who died of it. And they are dying very young.

All for doing their duty at a time of need.

Hell yeah, they deserve compensation.

PS said relative got 250,000 from a settlement for mesotheimeloma. It is sending her grandchildren to college. It is none of one's buisness what they will do with a mere $80 grand- wages lost over a lifetime due to illness and death.

7. My understanding is that the bill covers the people involved in
the cleanup of the debris from 9/11, not just the initial 9/11 responders..

16. And 80K will not get you long term care for some of these...
rare lung diseases that they have. It will not pay for a week's stay in a hospital with the tests and all that they need. 80K each is a drop in the bucket for these heroes!

9. Do you think it doesn't cost money?
Many of these guys are taking pills and going through treatment. Why should they pay out of pocket? Plus, just because you have health insurance does not mean you are covered.

10. Not just firefighters and policeman
the construction workers, medical workers etc.

Find the John Stewart clip that has the 4 public service memmbers on, all of them have some form of cancer.
Here is the link

Most of them were forced into early retirement because it was costing the city too much. So they get 3/4 of their pay and modified healthcare.

These are not ordiinary illnesses and these people deserve to receive healthcare from a government who lied to them and told them the air quality was safe. (One of the biggest lies of the decade).

5. This should not be surprising.
You get the same thing with "support the troops".

Sure, they support the troops, when they are off killing brown people in the name of USA USA USA USA.

But when they come home and are homeless and have mental and health issues? Nah, fuck 'em, they're just lazy bums who couldn't figure out how to make it in the real world.

You get the same thing with the "Pro Life" crowd. Sure, they want to save the unborn. But as soon as they are born and need any kind of social service? Nah, fuck 'em, they deserve what they get for having sex.

This is typical conservative behavior.

They're your best buddy when they need you or it is convenient to salve their conscious, but cost them money and all bets are off, buddy - you're on your own.

12. The GOP did nothing more than use p9-11 and the responders
Edited on Tue Dec-21-10 06:36 PM by rasputin1952
for their own nefarious purposes. The GOP are little more than sick miscreants that could care less about whether people live or die; they don't care that the illnesses these men and women came down with can actually kill them. They got what they wanted, 10 years of bringing up 9-11 while all the time...pissing on those that did the work to get the job done.

Republicans proved once again, they are nothing more than opportunistic shitheads that would dine on human babies if they thought they could get a vote out of the feast.

The sooner the GOP is crushed, the better off the entire world will be.
