34. Another victory for evil and a significant day in American history...
Psychopathic manipulation, engendered by the elite predator class, had completely stacked the Senate with venal politicians who were amenable to set aside, for personal gain, their sacred duty to defend the Constitution.

That's just the way it was. I'm not arguing right or wrong, just that at the time it was HIS calculation about his chances....remember, this was pre-9/11 world where options could STILL be more fairly weighed.

49. I don't believe that was a major consideration with Gore at the time.
It was basically a no win situation and Gore knew it, the Republicans controlled the Florida Legislature, both houses of Congress, the U.S. Supreme Court and the corporate media; which had worked tirelessly to enable to Bush and demonize Gore for the better part of two years prior to the selection.

The Republican controlled Florida Legislature was preparing to send a separate set of electors; willing to vote for Bush and the Republican controlled Congress would have seated them.

I believe Gore was sincerely doing what he thought was best for the nation at the time.

Perhaps the thousands of climate scientists who have done the research proving it.

Really?

Most of the refutations of global climate change smack of the anti-intellectualism now rampant across this nation.

What we seldom discuss--the 800 lb. gorilla in the middle of our nation's living room--is overpopulation. This macro-level manifestation of our species' hubris is our biggest threat. From an evolutionary perspective, something's gotta give. I sincerely doubt it will be our planet.

We've succeeded in pushing several species to extinction or the brink of extinction. Apparently, we are not far behind...

8. What more could be done?
How about impeachment of the court for making an improper, purely political ruling whey they themselves admitted was without foundation by their stipulation that it could not be used to establish precedent. SC rulings ALWAYS establish precident - that is their function. By saying this ruling couldn't, they proved thier own ruling invalid.

The whole fucking majority should have been impeached.

It took time to enable all of the logistics and distribute the materials.

The Orange Revolution, just like the Rose Revolution in Georgia, was bought and paid for by the same people that put Junior in power.

Gore also stopped the demonstrations that sprung up in Miami-Dade County

re the butterfly ballots -- and sent Jesse Jackson home -- Jackson came down

to give some leadership to their voices.

Gore got the word from "elites" that they didn't want anything as messy as

one candidate for president challenging another -- and then they brought in

the heavy weapons - the Gang of 5 on the Supreme Court!

That was after their fascist rally didn't work --

to corporate involvement in our elections, imo --

at least among those who understand what's at play.

But don't get how you arrive at that "preventing need for another recount" --

no matter how you vote, you always need the ability to do a recount.

Granted this is a fascist Supreme Court --

as most of our government is at this point.

Corporatism is fascism --

was key in putting together the current FASCIST Supreme Court majority that rendered the citizens united decision. If there was a similar occurence in an election, these fascists will do whatever is necessary to get or keep their people in power. Of course, this doesn't even begin to touch the outright electoral cheating/fraud that has happened.

Impeachments. Clarifying laws which may be deemed unconstitutional. Citizens United, an example of overreach by the S. Court, could be stopped by legislative corrections.

Nobody will say or it nobody wants to say it, but that was nothing short of a coup d'etat.

I'm not one for Wikipedia, but this seems to say it:

A coup d'état (English: /ˌkuːdeɪˈtɑː/, French: ; plural: coups d'état)—also known as a coup, putsch, and overthrow—is the sudden, illegal deposition of a government,<1><2><3> usually by a small group of the existing state establishment—typically the military—to replace the deposed government with another body; either civil or military. A coup d'état succeeds when the usurpers establish their legitimacy if the attacked government fails to thwart them, by allowing their (strategic, tactical, political) consolidation and then receiving the deposed government's surrender; or the acquiescence of the populace and the non-participant military forces.

Typically, a coup d'état uses the extant government's power to assume political control of the country. In Coup d'État: A Practical Handbook, military historian Edward Luttwak says, "A coup consists of the infiltration of a small, but critical, segment of the state apparatus, which is then used to displace the government from its control of the remainder", thus, armed force (either military or paramilitary) is not a defining feature of a coup d'état.

Edited on Tue Jan-04-11 11:26 PM by defendandprotect
and I was just looking to post this article up on Yahoo now --

http://news.yahoo.com/s/yblog_thelookout/20110104/ts_yblog_thelookout/the-paradox-of-our-recovering-economy

The see-saw of info --

"Dow Jones, NASDAQ, S&P all rose" -- what does that mean to average person -- ?
80% of the market is elite money.

"That pain from the housing bust and the economic slowdown it triggered lingers on."
We have had a new depression, as Obama called it only months ago -- quickly scrubbed from
yahoo and replaced with "recession."

"Personal bankruptcies rose to 1.53 million last year, a gain of 9 percent from 2009. That's the highest level since bankruptcy laws were changed in 2005. In California and Arizona -- two of the states hit hardest by the housing slump -- bankruptcies were up by a whopping 25 and 24 percent respectively."

"The spike in bankruptcies appears to reflect the effects of long-term joblessness -- a phenomenon we've written about here -- and depressed home prices. Meanwhile, wage growth is slow, and unemployment remains at 9.8 percent."

Notice that lie -- unemployment rose from 9.6% to 9.8% -- while emphasis is being kept on
unemployment claims which have dropped.

"And there's reason to believe that even if the economy continues to improve this year, as it's expected to do, these problems may remain. The Federal Reserve has said joblessness likely won't come down much this year -- though some firms have said they may start hiring. And there's not much evidence that home prices will substantially rebound in the near future -- indeed, some are predicting they'll continue to decline."

There's a live link to that FED quote on "joblessness" -- and how many Americans understand
that it is the FED -- not our Congress -- which is setting employment goals for the nation??

Disgusting!!!

CHENEY would have gladly stepped in if he were president of the senate- which Gore was at the time. For Gore to take advantage of this move would have led to a constitutional crisis. It amounts to a congressional coup d'etat and Bush/Cheney KNEW IT!

Because Gore believes we are "a nation of laws", he did everything he could legally. Do yourself a favor and read "The Assault On Reason".... but I suppose you never will, seeing the type of divisive shit you post here.

37. I was pained for the Black Caucus and wanted a movie ending, but at the time
I understood the Constitutional thing even though the Supreme Court didn't.

Recently, I've been learning about the Gore connection (mild as it is from what I know so far) to the Bilderberg Group. Kerry Edwards both Clintons. This country is run by the Bilderberg Group.

Devestating Milestones along the way of our plummet down.

The establishment of the Federal Reserve as a corporation.
The start of the Bilderberg Group, then Council on Foreign Relations, then Tri-Lateral Commission.
The rule of the OSS/CIA and all the little brother/siter intelligence services in this country.
The corporative morphing of the military.
The assassination of Kennedy, Kennedy, King and all the others.
The arrogance of domination of the world.
The lies of war and the economy.
The manipulative, planned arrogance in the theft of Florida and Ohio votes, the Supreme Court decision in FL - including the conclusion of this event as portrayed in this video as far as the disrespect and ridicule and arrogance shown to the members of the Caucus.
PNAC and that September day.
And millions of other lies including how they use lies to work with and against other countries.

Edited on Tue Jan-04-11 01:30 PM by bongbong
I have only one question, and viewed in the rapidly developing corporatism that is engulfing America (and the world), it's gotta be on a lot of people's minds: What is their end goal?

Is it a society like 1960? Or is it 1930? 1910? 1850? 1600? Death thru attrition of everyone worth less than $10,000,000? WHAT IS THEIR GOAL???

(I know, in a more serious frame of mind, that their only goal is getting every single last penny and crumb away from everybody else, leaving only enough wretches & lackeys to protect them. But that thinking is what produces the outcomes noted above)

53. What a powerful turning point
for this country, I felt a great loss that night, and such shock to see what happened in congress. I was going around telling everyone, if this had happened in the 60's people would be in the streets, but everyone was sort of numb for some reason.
