Sinek's talk focuses on a lot of examples from business, but there is also an example from politics -- Martin Luther King. Its equally relevant to either.

...ideas which are predicated on the belief that A) people are inherently selfish beings and B) they can be manipulated, essentially, subconsciously.

These are morally bankrupt tools of debatable utility, woven with interesting stories into a tapestry which falls apart after a single wash. Ten years ago I probably wouldn't have bothered to watch the presentation critically-enough to spot the ideas actually being sold. I might have even thought it revolutionary! But while the presenter seems like a nice-enough fellow, the dead giveaway on this species of bullshit was the the tie-in with brain structure and (apparently) how it can be circumvented, even partly, especially when bolted together with the strong belief in an individual's selfish view of the world.

I would recommend The Century Of The Self if anyone wants know more about how this brand of ideology has been exploited, politically. HINT: It has little to do with civil rights or Martin Luther King. Outside of politics, this ideology is also often applied in semi-sweatshop environments- whether it's a boiler room phonebank or working long hours at a desk job. Younger, less-experienced, less guarded people are more susceptible to this in my opinion but people who have been around the block can spot it a mile away.
