People like David Brock of "Media Matters" and Frank Schaeffer ("Crazy for God") were rabid conservatives until they saw the light. I know people that have switched back and forth from conservative to liberal due to such eye opening life-changing circumstances such as losing a job, which happened to a well-to-do relative of my husband's. A former supervisor told me once that he'd been a racist all his life until he found himself falling in love with his father's African-American home health aide and marrying her. Unfortunately, our side loses a few too. Like my sister who used to be liberal and got caught up with religious right-wingers. Or me, for that matter. I was devoutly Catholic in my youth and wanted to be a nun most of my life until I reached my late teens and married. I'm an atheist now. Somethings may be hardwired. Other things, not so much.
