Before Minnesota Governor Mark Dayton signed the executive order that would bring more federal health care dollars to the state, Jake McMillian of Bradlee Dean's controversial hard rock ministry You Can Run But You Cannot Hide. took to the podium to say that health care should be left up to churches. "Where is the church to help these people? Because that's the church's job and duty: it's social causes," he said. "I don't see where it is in the Constitution. It isn't the government's job is to do that, it's for nonprofits organizations. It's for the church to do what it rightfully does." Dayton's executive order, he added, "has a ripple effect of destroying societies." "I feel that this is a usurpation of authority here, because that's what it is. It's uncalled for and it's unnecessary. If somebody can show me where I'm wrong constitutionally... but you probably won't find somebody doing that today."

He wants to know WHY we don't leave heath care to the Churches? I can think of one reason right off the top of my head. BECAUSE the American Taliban believes that SIN cause diease! if we left heathcare to the churches they would be giving people with cancer exorcisms!

HOW'S THAT FOR A REASON!

3. US churches have been doing a remarkable job of collecting money
and using it for their own purposes, but not much for helping people who actually NEED anything...Tax free, too.

Besides how about us agnostics who need healthcare?

5. The Churches' job? Where the holy hell does that nonsense come from?
Edited on Sat Jan-08-11 08:23 AM by MrModerate
Never, ever, ever, anywhere, anytime, has "the church" been responsible for the delivery of healthcare. Sure they deliver pastoral care to their respective flocks, but that falls so far short of "healthcare" that to suggest so is to flat-out lie.

The American mind is deteriorating at an incredible rate. They say that the fall of the Roman Empire can be in part attributed to the misuse of lead in their plumbing resulting in illness and mental disorder. I gotta believe something similar is going on now.

7. Umm
Never, ever, ever, anywhere, anytime, has "the church" been responsible for the delivery of healthcare.

I know literally dozens of people who got funding for health care they needed from churches (not just the church they attend, either). Both in the South and in Boston.

19. And charity is often a good thing. But that's not what the sleazebag on the video . . .
Was talking about. He explicitly stated that providing healthcare was "the church's job" and that anything else was illegal, immoral and (presumably) ungodly.

And charitable funding of healthcare, in need, is all fine and well, but as a "delivery system" is both nonexistent and profoundly unwise. For the wingnut to have maintained otherwise -- and for the audience to have clapped enthusisastically -- goes back to my earlier point that many Americans are flat-out insane.

10. I don't know that Church given health care has ever been law
Edited on Sat Jan-08-11 09:12 AM by HillbillyBob
During the prior to the 20 century many monasteries/convents did have a hospital they either ran directly or sponsored. Many times they were the only care available aside from midwives or hedge drs.

Do notice how he assigns Authority. I do not want any cult/church/religion as authority over my life either.

20. And the midwives and hedge doctors outnumbered the religious types providing care . . .
A hundred to one.

17. Since it's obvious that they aren't doing it?
Never have done it, and doubt they ever will?
And if they won't do it, someone else has to step up.
If churches were providing universal health care, not only would they have better attendance, no one would be asking the government to do it.

18. Why Don't we leave health care to churches?
Answer: because its been proven that bloodletting and exocisms have no medical value.

We also don't want you telling our wives, girlfriends, sisters, and daughters how they should govern their bodies (i.e keep your rosaries off their ovaries).

22. Remember how he used "big government" here...
They always try to pull a bait-and-switch, pretending that by "bg government" they mean excessive regulation or wasteful bureaucrats, but historically they've used it just as this guy does here: "Big government" is any governemnt program that actuallly helps regular people keep body and soul together: medical care, Social Security, worker's compensation, etc.

if that does not call for universal single payer healthcare, nothing does. As for trusting the sprit of God,....um, no thanks. I'd rather have my gov't who i can vote in and out, thanks anyhow. Don't let the door hit you, Mr. zealot.
