UPDATE - MSNBC says a surgeon on the scene claims that Giffords is still alive, in critical condition.
UPDATE - While there is no hard evidence at this point to suggest that the shooting was politically motivated, An anti-Giffords event was held in June with the billing: 'Get on Target for Victory in November. Help remove Gabrielle Giffords from office. Shoot a fully automatic M16 with Jesse Kelly.'
Rep. Giffords was also on Sarah Palin's "target list."
A gun was dropped at a Giffords event in 2009, and her office was vandalized in March.

She sounds very sincerely interested in working with Republicans in a bi-partisan way. She seems genuinely idealistic and focused on putting the interests of the country first.
She is a true patriot.
And we see her reward.
This is why, while I am the first to support efforts to compromise, I cannot support Obama's subservience to the Republican bullies.
You can only negotiate meaningful compromise from a position of strength. You can only negotiate meaningful compromise if the opposing party respects you.
Compromising too quickly and too much is counterproductive.
When you are dealing with fanatical folks like the Republicans and the Tea-Baggers, you have to understand that you cannot appear fearful. You cannot cater to their craziness. And that is what moderate Democrats have been doing.
I feel pretty certain that they do not intend to elicit violence from the Republican extremists, but that is what they are doing by appearing to weak, so overly willing to compromise.
I am not blaming Obama or Congresswoman Giffords for what happened today. It is not their fault.
I hope, however, that Obama calls on the leaders of the Republican Party and especially the Tea-Baggers to stand with him in the same place at the same time and denounce this violence.
After that, Obama needs to speak frequently of this event. This is an attack on our democracy. This is the face of American terrorism. It must be put to an end.
