3. A good start would be a legal requirement that the seats be at least 24" wide...

I'm not a big guy at 175 lbs. but I can barely fit into the space allotted in economy. Current seat width is about 17"

4. Maybe the airlines could add a row of over sized seats for them.

I sat between two overweight people on a plane for 3 hours a few years ago, I could hardly breath.

I assume it is because they figure freight cost by weight. I have no problem with this.

when anybody with above a size 34" chest (arm width is usually about half torso depth so this is what a 17" seat means) spills into the other seat almost everyone is large. My 115lb - at 5'7" - stepdaughter spills into the next seat. She did not believe me - the skinny folks never do - until I took a picture from behind her seat showing both shoulders clearly visible. Unless you are tiny or anorexic so do you. Given the seat sizes we cannot apply a "Mom he's on my side!" criterion because anybody who should at least be beyond that argument almost certainly will be on someone else's side.

If your ass fits in one seat you only need one seat.
