Summary: Cenk Uygur (host of The Young Turks) on his weekly Daily Rant segment on the Dylan Ratigan show breaks down the Gabrielle Giffords shooting at the hands of Jared Loughner in the context of various right wing politicians and pundits using violent rhetoric and imagery.

PS---The Huffington Post removed Cenk's blog on Jared Loughner earlier this week. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FO9JajhZf2g|Watch his reaction and read the blog here>.

2. Come on give Mr Cenk his own show uncensored on Fox 'news"
Edited on Thu Jan-13-11 02:15 PM by GreenTea
Then Fox "news" constant 24/7 republican propaganda bullshit, a direct fund-raising arm promoting the republican party might have some validity - Cenk's a passionate intelligent personable-likable guy having his own show on Fox would truly show everyone that Fox 'news" is indeed Fair & Balanced" because no with any intelligence believe it now....

Not a chance says elitist republican pigs Roger & Rupert....we're republicans, we don't believe in fairness, just hate, lies & greed!

16. Republicans are economic terrorists.
Not only that, but they are legislative terrorists. At night, and when they think no one is looking, they are often social terrorists as well.

17. Indeed
That rant made me feel better than I have for a long time. We need more of that, and we need it placed on a higher platform.

5. Cenk was out in front in describing this precisely.
And here is a DKos diary that also describes:

Shame on HuffPo for being such cowards.

14. "STOCHASTIC TERRORISM"
Stochastic terrorism is the use of mass communications to stir up random lone wolves to carry out violent or terrorist acts that are statistically predictable but individually unpredictable.

This is also the term for what Beck, O'Reilly, Hannity, and others do. And this is what led directly and predictably to a number of cases of ideologically-motivated murder similar to the Tucson shootings.

On 27 July 2008, lone wolf shooter Jim David Adkisson walked into the Tennessee Valley Unitarian Universalist Church and shot nine people, killing two and wounding seven.

On 4 April 2009, Richard Poplawski shot five Pittsburgh PA police officers, leaving three dead and two seriously wounded.

On 31 May 2009, lone wolf Scott Roeder shot and killed gynecologist Dr. George Tiller while Tiller was attending church services.

On 18 July 2010, Byron Williams set out from his mother's home in Groveland CA, heading for San Francisco to shoot up the Tides Foundation and the ACLU, with the intention of "starting a revolution."

18. HP reacted
HP reacted in the same manner that Cenk predicted Obama would act - they tossed off the voice of a liberal "lefty" to show how tough they are to the "hate speech", contributing to the curse of false equivalency so in vogue with some these days.

I'm not buying it. Obviously Cenk isn't either. I am so glad i stumbled on his rant this evening.

22. Welcome to DU, stanlite.
Yes, these are the same organizations that have yet to figure out an effective response to hate speech, so their solution is to deny and ignore it. It amounts to complicity as far as I'm concerned.

15. They seek a Republican Utopia. Will they be happy?
Hate seeking missiles. A great phrase.

The right has been using violent hate speech since Rush found it was profitable. They won't stop. Now they have profited from it - they're high fiving and applauding this "win" (the Tucson murder) in private. I believe the floodgate is opening and we are about to see a wave of violence come across this nation that will be studied in a future time - hopefully by US scholars of the future but I would not be surprised if the right's machinations do far more harm than they possibly can foresee.

As a writer I find the only thing I can do - lacking funds to finance any party to fight them, and unwilling to manifest some kind of violent response to their violence (counterproductive at best), I'm turning to my art to create cautionary tales. Republicans are depending on violence to bring them the future they THINK they see coming, but I can see other possibilities. This is one.
