"Tim Pawlenty talks about Sarah Palin at the National Press Club. January 13. 2011."

WASHINGTON -- Speaking before the National Press Club on Thursday, in what was yet another tease at a forthcoming presidential run, Gov. Tim Pawlenty defended fellow GOPer Sarah Palin against critics who he deemed highbrow elitists.

The Minnesota Republican, in a late stage of his book tour, had caused a mild sensation days before when he dared to cast doubt on Palin's decision to use crosshairs to label the House races she was targeting in 2010. But he made up for it by inferring that those who criticized the former Alaska governor were either overly-privileged or condescending.

"There is also, I think, a double standard at play here because if you've had different kinds of experiences ... you went to say a certain more prominent school in a different part of the country, or you were the law review editor of some journal or something, then all of the sudden that is more valuable in the discussion than if you are in a place like Alaska or Minnesota because there's a little bit of a sense that maybe that's not quite up to our standards in some people's eyes. I don't buy that. I don't agree with that."

The line about the law review editor was, undoubtedly, directed at President Barack Obama, whom Pawlenty also criticized for having less experience when he entered the White House than Palin had when she was chosen as a vice presidential candidate. But the contrast could also have been meant for Mitt Romney, the former Massachusetts governor who seems all but certain to enter the presidential ring.

1. The only thing she has had more experience at than Obama is
playing the flute poorly in a beauty pageant.

5. Pawlenty knows that dissing Palin is no way to win the nomination for 2012
If Palin is now too wounded to win the nomination, it means that all her fans and the other Tea Party types are up for grabs. If Pawlenty wants to beat Romney, he needs all the support he can get. If he can convince the Palin folks to vote for him, that won't hurt his campaign for 2012.

9. They are going to trip over each other kissing her rear end ...
they know she is sacred to the MOST extreme of the party, and they lose that core block if they are not totally deferential to her ... I think while there is some teeth nashing on that side that she might win, I think the savvy people know she will crash and burn when 1) she can hit and run from a twitter account 2) she has to run an actual boots on the ground campaign, she is no worker, and she is too "rogue" to have a stable campaign with ...

You will see people like Romney alternate between kissing her but and going to extremes in making her a victim from the evil liberal media - to not alienate the extreme base in the first place, and also to be in their good graces to try to pick them up after she crashes and burns ...

8. Yeah her wisdom from that Experience really shows...
And has been showing us since Obama was elected. She is incompetent and mean spirited.

10. I'm having trouble deciding which one is creepier:
Pawlenty or Romney. They both exude an aura of unseemliness...like some kind of twisted morticians.

11. Pathetic
Palin was Mayor of town of 5,000. Position was ceremonial as there was a town manager to handle business and personnel. Palin quit as a gas commissioner. Then she quit as lame duck Governor.

So she has much experience quitting.
