Rachel and Frank Schaeffer discuss why more than 1 in 3 conservatives (in New Jersey) think that Obama might be the Anti-Christ. Schaeffer discusses the evangelical subculture, whether one can move people off of these conspiracies and, specifically, whether there are any Republicans who can move people off of these conspiracies.

1. "sub-culture in this country: 5th column of insanity raised to reject facts"
I remember seeing that show. He's always an excellent guest, as are all recovering insiders from the Right-wing of nuttytown.

"A village cannot reorganize village life to suit the village idiot!" -- Well said, Sir!

3. People must come to understand that the Republican Party
is all about this. it's the majority of who votes for them.

There will be no "getting along" with them, no sense of civility, because you are all hopeless sinners trying to drag them down to hell with you. You are doing Satan's work.

Just try to reason with that. G'head, my kumbaya whistlin' pal.

4. He's absolutely right that these people can't be argued out of lunacy
and that trying to do so just makes them feel persecuted. He's right that we have to shove them back to the lunatic fringe, although the Republican Party is loath to do so. That party still thinks these people can be used and that they won't take over, even though the signs are obvious that they have already taken over much of that party.

All we can do is try to convince our own party to vote to keep them out of office as much as we can, not easy to do with party conservatives undermining us at every turn.

Other than that, we're powerless. We can only hope the plutocrats at the heart of the GOP power structure realize the grave danger they as well as the country are in before it's too late.

10. I agree, one of the best quotes I have heard in one guest shot ever.
And I hope you print those up soon, we need to see them on cars and t-shirts, too.

I'll do the T-shirts, if you will do the bumper stickers.

atheist, and he professes to be a Christian, that's where we disagree. But he has tremendous insight into the sexually dysfunctional nature of the religious right, and their kooky mythological belief systems which block out rationality, logic, the discipline of scientific exploration and discovery, and so much more.

I would question why he feels the need to profess a belief in Christianity as a belief system, if part of that belief system he can so justifiably analyze and critique. Not passing judgement here, just wondering why his criticism stops when it comes to any complete rejection of the mind-set where myth holds more importance than factual evidence, more than the discipline of science. I am sure he finds some value in religious entities, the social acceptance, the ready-made avenues for doing something good in the world, atheists don't gather and meet together in order to do that together yet, but in the cyber age, with millions of atheists around the world who can literally talk to each other in real-time, that may be the new frontier for atheism, to provide a social network for each other, and to do good collectively in the world. Then the need for Christianity might vanish from his life entirely.
