1. After reading the Generations books years ago,
I felt that they should be required reading in high school.

History is so much more interesting by looking at the generations at a specific time period.

As a member of the Idealist Boomer generation, I remember laughing at the description of the Idealist Transcendental Generation (1972-1821). All I could think of was Sonny & Cher.

If you get a chance, please read Strauss & Howe's books. You won't regret it.

3. Fascinating

In the late 70's, before computers existed, my brother did a genealogical study of my father's side of the family. He learned our original grandfather who came to America from England in the early 1600's, was a captain in the British army. Subsequent generations became justices of the peace and landowner/slave-owner/farmers. Pair that with Howe's description of the Nomad generation, (which I'm proud to say I'm a member of) and you're looking at an enlightened individual who carries tremendous guilt for their ancestors past transgressions.

Reading the book my brother wrote of my family's migration from Virginia to Texas was a fascinating read. There are printed stories of my great grandfather's Texas Ranger days and the time he used one bullet to take out two criminals escaping on one horse. Geesh, I could just go on and on. History fascinates me. What can I say? I would love to see the study of generations become a regular curriculum in our schools. I think children would find it far more interesting. :D

Thank you for posting this interview. I'll be sure and read Howe's work.
