22. So you think he now believes in Reaganomic ideology?
Or just looking for dollars for 2012?

18. Arianna makes me sick

I'm tired of her hysteria and speculation politics. If everything she's predicted the last decade had come true, the Earth would devoid of water, there would be gay and lesbian concentration camps, blacks wouldn't exist, and the global economy run by Murdock.

There's liberalism and there is left wing panic, and she's the high priestess.

31. I would have to agree with you
She's been on a rampage of late with Obama, maybe she's only trying to up her numbers at her HuffingtonPost, and increase her visibility among media pundits.

4. she's right, and he's burned his bridges with the base - so who is left?
Corporations, centrists and wingnuts. They all feed at the Money is God trough - so expect some speechifying that *brings hope and change* to business, while using the base as speed bumps....

14. Agree ... and here the broader insanity on this ... last election $4 billion corporate $$$
Edited on Wed Jan-19-11 03:41 PM by defendandprotect
-- for every $1 the Dems got, the GOP got $7 --

Now, obviously, there was a choice to be made --

whether the Dem party should continue or not to take corporate money --

Was there a moral decision made to do that -- or was there simply a FLIP?

And how much more of Democratic Party ideals and commitments will have to be

sold off to breach the gap between that $1 and that $7 limbo stick?

Imagine the response had the Democratic Party announced they were ridding themselves

of the DLC-corporate wing and would not in future accept any more corporate bribes?

That Democrats would no longer be pre-owned by corporations?

Well, that's not what we heard --

what we are seeing is yet one more FLIP by Obama not on the side of morals but on

the side of corporations/elites/right wing!

And DU'ers are still milling around saying ... "I'm not sure about what's going on?"

9. The assimilation is complete, it appears
Deregulation and tax cuts got us where we are today, 15$ trillion in the hole. Obamas solution? More deregulation and tax cuts? Is he a full blown republican now?

The really sad part is, he does it to attract GOP and independent votes, but republicans will never, ever vote for him and independents see him as weak because he bends over for republicans everytime they demand it. Independents hate a weak politician and wont vote for him.

He is blowing every possible chance at reelection AND ruining the economy all at once.

16. Huffington had nothing to do with deregulation and the resulting depression....
but Obama's picks for his administration did -- and they're still there!

Except, more Wall Street'ers and Banksters have been added!

This is the exact reverse of what FDR did -- and Obama well knows that!

13. Did anyone actually READ the editorial?!
Edited on Wed Jan-19-11 03:21 PM by UrbScotty
Emphasis mine:

But throughout our history, one of the reasons the free market has worked is that we have sought the proper balance. We have preserved freedom of commerce while applying those rules and regulations necessary to protect the public against threats to our health and safety and to safeguard people and businesses from abuse.

...

This order requires that federal agencies ensure that regulations protect our safety, health and environment while promoting economic growth. And it orders a government-wide review of the rules already on the books to remove outdated regulations that stifle job creation and make our economy less competitive. It's a review that will help bring order to regulations that have become a patchwork of overlapping rules, the result of tinkering by administrations and legislators of both parties and the influence of special interests in Washington over decades.

17. Instead of talking about...
trying to "bring order to regulations that have become a patchwork of overlapping rules", why isn't Obama instead talking about reinstating things like the Glass-Steagall Act, which was the FRAMEWORK the "patchwork" was written under? Why isn't he proposing legislation to strip "person-hood" from corporations?

Deregulation and corporate greed is what caused the problem.

19. Thank you

I stop listening to Arianna back in the 90's. I'm disappointed in Countown giving her a forum to churn up left-wing panic dust clouds for her own amusement and profic. More Maddow and less Arianna.

.... to resign after the Lewinski scandal. Imagine if Al gore had taken over the WH, we would have never had that son-of-a-bitch bush. She was absolutely correct.

34. Left-wing panic dust?
Of course the "Left wing panic dust clouds" as you put it seem to keep happening the same way.

1) Left freaks out over something.
2) "Sensible" people insist there's no reason to freak out: That would never ever happen. Ever.
3) Thing the left freaked out over happens.
4) "Pragmatic" people insist that it should have happened anyway and they were for it all along.
5) Repeat.

By the way, Arianna was a conservative until the very late 90s. Stopped listening to her when she quit backing Gingrich and Dole? Sounds sensible to me.

20. I'm not sure this is right...
while his words are pro-gop, because he complains about overlapping and confusing regulations and such, he seems to be proposing standardized regulations at a strict federal level. I am not sure this is as bad as we are making it out.
