"Kucinich Continues Single-Payer Push as Health Care Repeal Vote Looms"

Speaking today on the House floor, Congressman Kucinich (D-OH) continued to build the case for a single-payer, not-for-profit health care system that would reduce inefficiencies and increase health care availability.

In 1977, Kucinich became the Mayor of Cleveland. At the time, Kucinich was the youngest person ever elected to lead a major American city. In addition to being Mayor of Cleveland, Kucinich has served as a Council Member for the City of Cleveland (1970-75, 1981-82), as the Clerk of Courts for the Cleveland Municipal Court (1976-77) and as an Ohio State Senator (1994-96).

In 1996, Kucinich was elected to the U.S. House of Representatives. As a Congressman, Kucinich has been a progressive proponent of environmental initiatives, sustainability practices, human rights issues and the social and economic interests of his Ohio constituents, including the troubled steel industry. In 2001-2003 Kucinich was Chairman, and later Co-Chairman (2004), of the Congressional Progressive Caucus.

Kucinich is known for his idealism, activism and indefatigable spirit. In 2003, Kucinich began his campaign for the 2004 Democratic presidential nomination with a platform largely dominated by human rights and environmental initiatives. In his campaign for the 2008 presidential nomination, he called for universal healthcare and an immediate withdraw from Iraq. In 2007 and 2008, he introduced impeachment articles for Vice President Dick Cheney and President Bush respectively

Kucinich is the chairman of the Domestic Policy Subcommittee of the Oversight and Government Reform Committee. He is also a member of the Education and Labor Committee. In November 2008, Dennis Kucinich was reelected to a seventh term in Congress.

1. Wouldnt that be ironic
If by voting to repeal the HCB it made people relize the need for a national health care system? They claim to hate the HCB but they would probably have a heart attack about a single payer system.

10. All that has not yet been realized is merely a pipe dream.
But of those dreams, reality can be made.

Dreams are the reality of the future.

2. Health Care Repeal: Republican 'Job Crushing' Talking Point Is a Lie
Congress will vote on the repeal falsely labeled "Job-Crushing" health care bill (formerly known as the "Job-Killing" bill) and Sam Seder explains where the Republicans got this "fact" and why it is a lie.

3. Dennis is my hero on this and it would be so
simple to pass a law extending an improved and updated Medicare For All. However, until the insurance companies find it is no longer profitable to sell health insurance that will never happen. This is why a public option would have been useful. It probably could have provided the same coverage for those who wanted it for half the cost. In a true free market capitalistic society, it should have the competitive advantage, but since we have a monopolistic capitalistic society, we can't even get what we need within the rules of capitalism. :-(

5. We need to come up with a frame for single payer that will fool the
repugs into thinking they are voting for something else. Sneak it right under their noses.

8. Yup
I find the younger people are downright anti-organized labor too. Products of a massive decades long propaganda effort.
