2. Could not be more true?
Perhaps if Joseph Goebbels were the only person in the history of organized governance to tell lies, you might have something. But that's not the case.

BTW, lies frequently DON'T work. Many people know better than to believe propaganda, even in authoritarian police states.

4. UM, there was no claim that Goebbles was the ONLY liar! And..sadly..
many people believe what they hear on the Fixed Noise channel, all loyal to that channel alone.

What was that you were saying about "lies frequently DON'T work. Many people know better than to believe propaganda" ??

Hello? Fox News exists and continues to be the most watched cable news for a reason: stupidity of the viewership.

7. I don't know about that
My guess is that Fox owes its ratings to perceptions among conservatives that the rest of the MSM is hostile to them. No doubt that's why Fox News was founded in the first place -- Murdoch knew that there were unhappy CNN viewers out there who would welcome a conservative news outlet on cable television. I'd say it's more about that than intelligence.

3. He's right ... we have the rising of the Fourth Reich --
Edited on Wed Jan-19-11 04:00 PM by defendandprotect
And have always been concerned that it has taken the population so long to

pick up on the reality of propaganda as used by the right wing in past

decades -- from "entitlements" to "Welfare Queens" and on to "reverse racism"

and "affirmative action quotas" --

These are slogans used to short-circut thinking and to cause emotional responses --

In the Nixon White House they began to study NAZI propaganda -- playing old NAZI

films in the evenings --

Subsequently, some suggest that Nixon's speeches began to reflect an attempt to

use NAZI propaganda --

Later we know the GOP provided all of the reps with tape recorders which gave them

the MESSAGE which they were to stay on -- never deviate from!

Propaganda is very difficult to respond to -- imagine a black man in the South trying

to reply to the message of a "White's Only" drinking fountain?

Of Jews trying to respond to NAZI films which featured them being compared to "rats

running in the gutters of the streets."*

Of women trying to respond to the insanities of the Vatican's "The Hammer of Witches" --

Think of the anti-homosxual propaganda which was preached from Christian pulpits for

hundreds of years -- and that in some places that spreading of intolerance and hatred

for homosexuals is still happening!

Believe it -- right wing propaganda is highly successful -- especially when our

Democratic Party doesn't respond to it -- fight back -- and when we no longer have a

free press to challenge and question these slanders.

8. Here here!
The right is doing the same thing that Hitler and the Nazis initially did. Thats why I can't understand why any Jews would side with them.

in which some on the right engage, it is just as wrong no matter who does it.

And frankly, we don't need anyone on our side to do that.

Sure, his words weren't of a violent nature, but still...

12. “If you tell a lie big enough and keep repeating it, people will eventually come to believe it"
Joseph Goebbels:

“If you tell a lie big enough and keep repeating it, people will eventually come to believe it. The lie can be maintained only for such time as the State can shield the people from the political, economic and/or military consequences of the lie. It thus becomes vitally important for the State to use all of its powers to repress dissent, for the truth is the mortal enemy of the lie, and thus by extension, the truth is the greatest enemy of the State.”

PolitiFact's Lie of the Year: 'A government takeover of health care'

In the spring of 2009, a Republican strategist settled on a brilliant and powerful attack line for President Barack Obama's ambitious plan to overhaul America's health insurance system. Frank Luntz, a consultant famous for his phraseology, urged GOP leaders to call it a "government takeover."

"Takeovers are like coups," Luntz wrote in a 28-page memo. "They both lead to dictators and a loss of freedom."

The line stuck. By the time the health care bill was headed toward passage in early 2010, Obama and congressional Democrats had sanded down their program, dropping the "public option" concept that was derided as too much government intrusion. The law passed in March, with new regulations, but no government-run plan.

But as Republicans smelled serious opportunity in the midterm elections, they didn't let facts get in the way of a great punchline. And few in the press challenged their frequent assertion that under Obama, the government was going to take over the health care industry.

I have no problem whatsoever with Cohen linking "The Big Lie" strategy of Goebbels with the right wing in America's propaganda tactics. The similarities are striking.
