Obama's Hints About Social Security Cuts Are Turning Voters Off

President Barack Obama's apparent willingness to consider cuts in Social Security benefits may be winning him points with Washington elites, but it's killing him with voters, who see the program as inviolate and may start to wonder what the Democratic Party stands for, if not for Social Security. viahttp://www.huffingtonpost.com/2011/01/19/obama-social-security-talk-polling_n_811209.html

1. give a reason
I don't understand why anyone would vote this down. This is exactly the information that active progressives need to know. Please leave a reply as to why you are voteing "Unrecommend" for this post.

5. I agree with this. Why do people not want to realize we have a problem.
Ignoring this serious issue does nothing to fix what damage has occurred in recent years.

2. This is a bizarro world.
Many of us here worked hard to get President Obama elected. We have watched horrified as it has become obvious that we currently have one political party, controlled by the small minority, but heavily monied, ruling elite.
Sadly (wow I never thought I'd say this), voting is not even a choice of "the lesser of two evils."
Now there is no choice. It is corporate or corporate.
No Democracy, No majority rule.....

3. Fools, fools, fools.
If they knew even an iota of American history, they would understand that it was the Republican Party that fought against SocSec tooth and nail!
To trust the Republicans to preserve any New Deal or Progressive program is sheer stupidity.

6. But they don't know American history.
And Obama has not been clear on the issue. There is little wonder that the voters are confused on the issue. Obama didn't have to create the cat food commission but he did.

4. I don't find it surprising at all. Obama appointed the cat food

Commission and has given signals he is open to it. The Republicans took the House promising to cut spending and never ever did I hear any of them commit themselves to cutting anything. Even now Boner says it is not his job to cut the budget, he is going to leave it up to the President then blame him for any unpopular cuts. I have repeatedly seen suggestions here on DU from Democrats wanting to reduce peoples SS if they have a pension or any savings income. I just can't see Republicans wanting to cut someones SS because they make too much retirement income. After all wasn't it Bill Clinton that started taxing SS income?
