2. K&R You get a much better sense of what happened today with the arrests
than from the still pictures.

3. Wash Post says 189 arrested
It would have been 190 if I'd have been there.

I am grateful to all of you who were there getting arrested and representing those of us who couldn't be there.

Cheers to ANSWER for organizing this.

8. Barricades
I don't understand. Why were they arrested if they were behind the barricade? Why did they have to volunteer to cross the barricade to be arrested?

9. I'm thinking the police . . .
all over the country are being told to confront the demonstrators, and use intimidation in hopes of discrediting the anti-war movement. I posted photos of the police intimidation in my town, Albuquerque, at our demonstration here http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=view_all&address=389x1819338

12. Rather subdued
Being a veteran of civil disobediences from the 60s and 70s, it seems to me that that both the police and the partakers in the civil disobedience were subdued. The police were not violent, and neither were the participants. This is a far cry from what was thirty some years ago, when heads were bashed for no apparent reason.

I am not scared by this, I am rather empowered. I feel that the video shows that the police were doing their job, and the participants were doing their job, and nobody got hurt in the process. Who knows what happened on the way to the station, or in the station, but this shows that maybe, just maybe, we can get along.

Also, the shots of the crowd dismiss the myth posed by Fox News, that there were five thousand, or NPR, which stated that there were 'several thousand.'

We should go after Fox for posing themselves as a news service, because reporting that there were five thousand protesters there, is simply not a fact, and news is supposed to be reporting of facts. Maybe there is a legal eagle, as opposed to a 'soaring eagle,' out there who could get the ball rolling on this one... Perhaps if we could get them to stop calling it Fox 'News' in one area, it would have a snowball effect.

But I babble.
Thanks for the vid.

15. Ditto that
The Capital police are very cool. They're accustomed to protests. Been there. Wish I could have been there this week-end.

17. Public Property
"I feel that the video shows that the police were doing their job"

Don't mean to be confrontational or anything, but, what job would that be? Preventing the people from assembling on their own property to protest against their government?

I agree this video isn't as bad looking as it was back in the 60's and 70's, but its not the only example. I myself was at MacArthur Park Los Angeles when the Los Angeles Police Department open fired with bean bag and rubber bullets on us after they had drove their motorcycles threw a group of Aztec dancers. I might add, that if you use your vehicle in the same manner against the LAPD you're going to be shot dead by the LAPD and they're going to say they were defending themselves from assault with a deadly weapon.

what I see in this video isn't a group of police doing their jobs as peace officers. I see a bunch of militarized jack booted nazis protecting the corporate oligarchy and preventing citizens from entering onto their property to protest against the oligarch's lies and illegal use of our military.

The day I see the police actually uphold their oaths of supporting and defending the constitution instead of acting like nazis following their orders. That's the day I'll call them police officers.

20. Ok, worked for me this time --
First time, I had thought I had sound . . . and it started and then stopped and couldn't get it started again --

Meanwhile . . . why the necessity of making people lie on the ground to handcuff them -- except to make them suffer???? To try to humiliate them, to try to hurt them.
And, we're all supposed to not guess that they could handcuff someone standing up???
Really dangerous looking women there -- ya know???
