CNN 360° w/ ANDERSON COOPER - Jan. 21, 2011: Anderson Cooper says that sources have told them that the parting came as fall-out from Comcast purchase of NBC Universa, and with it the departure of Jeff Zucker. Olbermann had at 2 years left on a four-year contract.

2. I wonder how long before we'll see KO back on TV. However long it is, it's going to be painfully
TOO long...

4. Yeah he's my picker upper for the day
and I'm clincally depressed :( really gonna hurt. Heartless people at Comcast for firing him less than a year after his dad died and for him saving thousands of lives over the summer.

I guess I'm waiting for the petitions to go out again. Seriously.. I see MSNBCFOX did not learn from the massive backlash the first time round. and Mike Malloy was right.

6. ahhh... crap.
I'm sorry to hear that. I haven't been feeling very well, anyhow, and so this is depressing.

Hug me, ok, and take this hug, we need them...

5. Reportedly, the negotiations resulted in a 1-year non-compete. (nt)

22. He can appear on NBC
And there has been other reports that the non-compete does not cover radio or the Internet so he can go wherever he likes in those areas. But we're in extremely thinly sourced land here, and will probably no more in the next few weeks.

25. Will try to be patient and once that is established, I think we need to build off of that to
keep him out front as much as we can to the public.
There needs to be some serious work and investment by some progressive billionaires to resolve the media issue. I thought Bernie had talked about "talks" going on way back when this whole Comcast fiasco possibility showed up.

3. I smell a lawsuit coming.
Could be very expensive for Comcast... doing a Dan Rather style firing.

8. Doubtful. They negotiated an end to the contract
One does not negotiate to end the contract of the media figure you're "firing". Instead, you do what MSNBC did to Schuster and just refuse to put them on the air for the remainder of their contract.

I strongly suspect the situation revolves around Zucker's departure. My guess is Olbermann didn't want to stay around NBC without Zucker - probably didn't like the new executives.

However, we'll just have to see what leaks out.

23. Schuster mentioned it on CNN's coverage, so unfortunately no link for the non compete.
The rest of my post is conjecture based on ending the contract vs. just taking him off the air.

They don't have the bona fides to even mention Keith's name and why is this breaking news for them anyway. Keith doesn't kiss ass you idiots like you do. What a bunch of leeches.

I don't agree with you.

14. Controversial, huh!
For someone like me who remembers Ed Murrow, Bill Moyers, Walter Cronkite and even Dan Rather, Keith pretty much followed the same journalistic format in his show and was no more biased than they would have been in doing an editorial type piece. I guess having facts and shining a light on abuses is considered controversial these days.

If revealing the truth is controversial, then KO qualified as such.

17. A sad, sad day indeed...
Losing such a clear, articulate and honest voice in contrast to so much of the media garbage that surrounds us leaves a vacant spot in the world of respectable journalism. Come back soon, Keith!

18. Contraversial??
So speaking the truth and calling people out on their b.s. is contraversial in today's media but telling your viewers to shoot progressives in the head is not?

The same thing happened to Murrow, After the Mcarthy broadcasts he never again hosted a weekly show.

This is such crap.
