Why does Michele Bachmann like the history of the founding fathers so much? Because, apparently, you can just make it up as you go along! Listen ye children as we do a “close read” of this speech and discover the many amazing improvised historical facts Michele Bachmann made up for us.

Let’s skip past the “the Tom Addison, the Tom Adams, err, John Adamses” part of this speech, and the part when she says immigrants are good, if they were born in the seventeenth century and were white. Cue it up to 9:00 or so.

9:30—Thomas Jefferson would be very interested to find out he plagiarized whole-cloth, without crediting those weirdo pilgrims, some sort of prayer thing from the Mayflower Compact. But it’s her word against his, and he never raised millions of dollars and blanketed the air with teevee ads, so he automatically loses.

9:40—Eighteenth-century America: “It didn’t matter the color of their skin, it didn’t matter their language, it didn’t matter their economic status… it made no difference. Once you got here, we were all the same. Isn’t that remarkable.” Yes, yes it certainly is! Those black slaves and poor white indentured servants were idiots! They didn’t realize they lived in a totally equal society, completely in line with one another. They just thought they were de-jure or de-facto owned by other humans! Whoops! COLONIAL FAIL! (Also: If this sounds like socialism, it WASN’T. Michele says the Pilgrims didn’t come over here for universal health care, so there.)

3. I just found out the other day that
the Boston Tea Party happened in reaction to the British attempt to give the colonists universal health care.

17. Yeah an army of socialist "doctors" all dressed in Red Coats..were
lined up on Boston, forcing the colonists into Massachusetts General Hospital, just blocks from the boats filled with tea, and from the sight of the Boston Massacre, less than a mile from Bunker Hill, and the same distance from the Old North Church. It's history for the seriously chronologically, geographically, and intellectually challenged.

One has to wonder who votes for that woman and why they missed so much American history in their schools.

7. I guess those Polish indentured servants in Jamestown
who actually created the wares that were exported to England and sold for profit, the ones who are accredited with keeping the colony alive years before the Pilgrims landed on that rock, the ones who actually brought democracy to the colony (they staged a labor shutdown, a walkout until they were allowed the same voting rights as the English) really didn't have to work so hard or struggle for what was fair, it was here if they just bothered looking for it - freedom and equality were just here.

8. She epitomizes elitism and is certifiable
this crafty person and her fellow revisionists showcase their arrogance and condescension
for the rest of everyone she believes is beneath her. When they use their hands like that,
especially the part where she was pantomiming "writing" when talking about the forefathers,
is typical of people who think you don't have the capacity to understand them.

10. it made no difference. Once you got here, we were all the same. Isn’t that remarkable.”
See, Michele doesn't even think this is true. (After all, along with the indentured servants, blacks, and oh yeah, those native Americans, there was women's status)

She just thinks her audience is stupid enough to think it's true. Some of them are. But the others should be furious for being talked down to like some know nothing.

I mean, it isn't even true if you were white and from Europe (which is what she means).

What a racists elite she is!

I was reminded a Glen Beck video recently where he engaged in a chalk board writing, Democrat bashing, word slurring rant while visibly under the influence and yet nobody in the media will say a word about the obvious.

Similar thing at work here; Congresswoman Bachman can barely put two words together without looking like your aunt at Christmas dinner who's had one too many.

13. Pissed that Palin still hogging the headlines, Bachmann's trying out a catch phrase of her own:
"Don't Retreat... REWRITE!"
:banghead:

Honestly, her stupid burns so bad I'm surprised she doesn't burst into flames.

15. I love the irony of "they didn't come here for socialized medicine"
Since roughly one half of the Mayflower settlers died of illness and starvation during the first winter.

That and the fact that the aristocratic descent of Jamestown settlers is counted among the many reasons the first Settlers were so likely to die of starvation during the first few years of their time in America.

"Isn't it remarkable?" ... "and out of that... e pluribus unum... the plural egg bus... " She's so confused I kind of expected her to say something crazy like that. She is utterly idiotic. Without question.

21. Why didn't the crowd laugh their butts off?
How can you listen to such massive stupidity and not laugh? "It didn't matter the color of their skin." Except if you were black, you'd be a slave. And if you were red, your whole tribe would be exterminated.

I cued it up to 9:00 as instructed, and the first thing I heard was, "For 21 generations we have listened to the words of Lincoln . . ." Okay, Lincoln was president from about 145 - 150 years ago. If that's 21 generations, then each generation only takes about 7 years. They must reproduce young in Bachmann's family. Did she mean to imitate Lincoln's "four score and seven years ago" line, but got the math wrong?
