I wish the State of the Union for 2011 was as good. The one for this year was even more disappointing than the one for the last year, if that's even possible. Where is the hope and change he promised, the "yes we can" accomplish progressive reform? At the urging of conservative pundits and journalists, he is moving even further to the "center" (Right), and he was pretty conservative to begin with. If the president was truly trying to frame this as a moderate speech for Independents, while trying to appeal to his liberal base, he should have moved the "center line" away from the Right and back to the Left, so that being "moderate" meant that you actually believe in some liberal ideas, instead of all conservative ideas. Overall, I'd say President Obama's speech was a betrayal of us, the people who campaigned for him, donated to him, and got him elected as our president, and an embracing of the Radical Right which hates him and will never compromise with him anyway.
