1. He's a big dog, but he's the big dawg. He still makes more sense than most.

2. He's still got it...
love the parallel universe quote- such a good way to describe the twisted truths of faux news/beck/bachmann/republicans/tea party.

3. He still thinks faster and deeper than any politician in America. If it weren't for term limits he

would still be president.

4. Always love listening to Bill Clinton. He's exceptionally
intelligent, yet has a way of making his point so even (at least in most cases) the most simple minded, mentally deficient person can understand. I hope he will be hitting the campaign trail in 2012 to help Democratic candidates. Clinton's brilliance drove the GOP to insanity and desperation. It's why they were do determined to discredit him. He a powerful man who still commands an audience and is deeply respected throughout the world.

5. American Exceptionalism
is just crazy talk. The most money spent on weapons sure isn't being exceptional, just corrupt and stupid. And so our health care, education, stewardship of the environment, regulation of business & finance are all underfunded.

7. The old joke
There's an old joke sadly minimizing the harmful effects of smoking. It goes something like this: "NEWSCASTER: anti-smoking campaigns were dealt a setback today when scientists studying why people smoke found out it DOES make you look sophisticated and cool"

The point is, crazy talk? You are so right. Like the joke, campaign strategists have discovered that crazy really SELLS to the average TV viewer.

6. I second all that
Yeah, listening to Bill C. it is apparent he really is thoughtful and smart about things---which is exactly why the knuckle-dragger constituencies hate him. But they don't hate Clinton as much as they are reacting to having been intellectually bullied (or just FEEL bullied undeservedly) by half-wits posing as experts. Or "experts" who are arrogant.

I think the principles here at DU unite people on a visceral level, and one of those principles is peace and admiration of everyone---there is some good to be found in anyone. When we stoop to being unlikable by being arrogant, we "shoot ourselves in the foot" (Palin alert for non-politically-correct statement). So we should strive to be principled above all things, and carry ourselves like Bill Clinton. He is very effective at sharing the core principles that guide DUers in a gentle and respectful way.

So.... pointing out that she doesn't know at all what she's talking about "elevates Bachman to serious political material"?

Alrighty then!

25. Making Bachmann The Face Of The Republican Party
Is smart politics. Look what it did for Sarah Palin. Sorry to say this but I think Bill Clinton knows a little more about smart politics than you do.

26. There are different strategies in politics -
When Bachman is attacked by the left she becomes a martyr to many on the right -

We have seen how intellectualism has and is being degraded in this country - to elevate Bachman as spokesman for the Republican Party appeals to the anti-intellectual segment of the population. You only have to look at previous presidents to see that this has worked before.

13. There hasn't been another politician like Bill Clinton in decades.
Not only is he extremely bright and well informed, he also has the capacity to connect with people and to explain even the most complicated issues in terms that any person can understand.

I would have voted for him for a third term in a heartbeat.

:-)

22. Oh, yes....
a third term would have been grand. 09/11/2001 would have been just another pleasant late summer day in NYC. The economy would have been booming, and peace would be the order of the day.

15. Remember when we had some politicians that were smart?
That could reason? That didn't live in a religious/machismo/gut-thinking haze?

Clinton was not perfect, that's for sure, but I'll take him over self-serving righteousness any day! His crew may have worn jeans in the White House, but they were the LAST adults to occupy it. (and that includes today)

17. Yeah, I agree about Clinton's uniqueness and value. Don't agree with all of his policies, but...
....I really respect his intellect and honesty and his humble background. He's never tried to be an elite, except for what his natural talents have brought him. I also respect his wife's intellect and charm. She, along with he, have been so belittled and slammed by the rightwing that it's a crime to humanity. They could be living in a luxurious retirement now, but no, they're both flying all over the world contributing their time and talents to their fellow man.

I wish. The left has been equally as hateful. They can both go to hell as far as I'm concerned.
