Naomi Klein gives a pretty spot-on analysis of the new economy model BushCo has fashioned around prepping us for disaster (through the use of shock, which "radical free-marketeers," to use her words, exploit), and then takes that analysis back into the '80s and '90s. Interesting stuff.

1. Kevin Phillip's Wealth and Democracy along with Dean Baker's Conservative Nanny State
books Naomi should check into.

You can have great wealth or a democracy, but you cannot have both--Louis Brandeis

Our 'elite' of Bush's base needs to realize that overconcentrating wealth leads to the demise of economic empires: Spain, Netherland, Great Britain, and now the US, unless we realize this and de-concentrate this wealth !

6. That's an great quote by Brandeis
I think she makes a compelling argument here, echoing what many DUers have been saying for years. I guess to connect Brandeis' quote to Klein's thesis, you could say the increasingly uneven distribution of wealth creates fear for those at the margins, and that makes the whole populace more susceptible to something like "disaster capitalism."

It was interesting to see her observations synthesized into a larger, more encompassing idea.

7. Brandeis went after the money trust, particularly JP Morgan Empire
back in the 1910's. He was one shit-kicking SOB.

I've been reading a bit of history lately. It really helps to place the present situation in perspective. This shit has been going on since at least the Civil War.

11. Shock was used against the American public on 9/11
The people actually believe those two steel buildings were burned by fire and fell on their footprint. So there is some shock and awe for you.

12. You know, looking through the writings, speeches and ideas of Milton Friedman.....
.... it dawned on me that Milton Friedman was completely full of $### and pulled most of his theories out of his @$$. To him, the big fish swallows little fish world was the best of all possible worlds, naturally, because he was doing well. What an @$$hole.
