North Adams is in a part of our commonwealth that is solidly red. But this guy, I think, is pretty nutty even by their standards - he might have been a joke vote, sort of Jesse Ventura was. Or maybe he ran unopposed, or everyone was drunk that day.

2. It would be interesting to see more context.

Billings teaches an American Studies course with a module called the "Politics of Prejudice."
If in context his usage was as hostile as it seems in that clip, then I'd love to see the study guide for his course.

As for the MA expectation, MannyGoldstein is right. That corner of the state is not exactly a liberal area.
