Colin Powell's Former Chief Of Staff Lawrence Wilkerson Claims Powell Was 'Manipulated' Into Making Case For Iraq War

Lawrence Wilkerson, former chief of staff to Colin Powell, appeared on "MSNBC Live" 02/17/11 and discussed Powell's role as Secretary of State during the lead-up to the Iraq War. Wilkerson said he believes that Former Vice President Dick Cheney's office "manipulated" Powell into justifying the case for war and that "the Secretary of State was not told the complete truth." He went on to state his belief that the Bush Administration was "using" Powell due to his respected reputation.

A key moment in the interview comes when host Cenk Uygur asks Wilkerson about Powell's speech to the United Nations in which Powell made the case for war:

Uygur: Do you think the Vice President's office manipulated you and Secretary Powell into giving a speech?

Wilkerson: Absolutely. Absolutely.

2. Oh, Bullshit...talk about revisionist fantasy...
So, let's see if this is correct: a supposed war veteran is intimidated by and afraid of a frail, hateful draft dodger?

Here's what pisses me off: any one with an open mind and half a brain KNEW almost every word out of Powell's mouth before the UN was BULLSHIT and lies. Especially, if the information provided by other credible sources was paid attention to.

Remember the aluminum rocket tubes and how engineers said they were not strong enough? The BS about the mobile death labs? The lies about the drone planes? The lies about the 45 minute capabilities? The lack of finding WMDs by others? The dissection of the Bush administrations informers? This went on and on and on.

Powell is/was a coward and now he's trying to repair his damaged reputation.

Millions of people around the world protested this war before it began. One of the reasons we did that is because we knew the evidence presented to go to war was pure, deluxe crap. Curveball was discussed ALL THE TIME at the time, and it was a stunning moment when we saw Powell use his testimony as fact during the address to the UN. We knew THEN that Curveball had no credibility in the intelligence community, and Wilkerson is trying to convince us he's just shocked! shocked at Curveball's most recent revelations? What total crap. Powell and Wilkerson know where they will wind up in history books, and this is yet another attempt to distance themselves from being labeled war criminals. Sorry guys, we know the truth. You played a huge role in "catapulting the propaganda."

On the Rachel Maddow Show, Rachel talks about Cheney, the torture memos, and Cheney's request for the release of his file documents. In part 2, she talks with retired army colonel Larry Wilkerson, Colin Powell's former chief of staff, about torture and Dick Cheney.

6. Iraqi Defector Fabricated Weapons of Mass Destruction
For the first time in an interview by a Guardian film crew 'Curveball' admits his role in fabricating stories of weapons of mass destruction. Those lies were used directly by Colin Powell in a United Nations speech which pushed the case for the invasion of Iraq.

9. Failure to prosecute makes the administration complicit, does it not?
Under the Nuremberg Principles, crimes against peace consist of planning, or waging a war of aggression.
