Please watch this video of a young Libyan IT worker speaking to the BBC overnight. Nothing can quite sum up what’s happening in Libya as this man’s brave testimony can.

The pro-government Al-Zahf al-Akhdar newspaper warned that the government would “violently and thunderously respond” to the protests, and said those opposing the regime risked “suicide”.

Forget about this not ending well
The stories about what is happening in Libya right now is absolutely appalling.
http://rising-hegemon.blogspot.com/2011/02/forget-about-this-not-ending-well.html

............

Yes---I want to see him on a TV, telling the world that the United States emphatically condemns the violence that is happening in Libya.

I do not want President Obama to mince words---none if this "delicate diplomatic" talk---let it all out---call Gaddaffi the murderer that he is!!

It is time to stop "being nice" to these bastards---we have played the game too long; it is time to stop being a partner in these killings ---and demand it stop.

Yes, it will have major consequences....

43. Britian, Russia, France, the US, Italian mob.
Trying to find deals the US made, though, only finding talk of offers for fighter planes. We've had an arms embargo in place for quite some time. Any info on US deals would be good. Apparently the Italian mafia also did illegal trading of AK-47s during the embargo.

Libyan-Canadians take to Parliament Hill to protest

The Libyan-Canadians, many of whom still have family in their home country, held signs that read “Set Libya Free” and “Over 40 years of oppression” as they marched, shouting “No Gadhafi. Gadhafi no more!”

36. I'm guessing that this young man signed his own death warrant by openly
posting this on the internet. History has shown for millenia that desperate attempts by a subjugated populace to gain even basic freedoms usually require the blood of many innocents. I hope the people of Libya, Bahrain, and other nations are successful in gaining their freedom.

The bravery of the people of the Middle East who are rising against their despotic rulers is inspiring beyond words.

REC.

39. I feel sad watching this. The Iraq and Afghanistan wars have cost us and them thousands of lives
If we added one more or two more wars on top of that, will we as a nation go broke?

Oil isn't a good enough reason to go to war.

A humanitarian crisis like what happened in the former Yugoslavia or Rwanda, is that suffient?

Would we accept a draft to bulk up our forces?

I don't know what we can do. I cringe hearing him give an address for a police group to come and collect him for having the nerve to speak out.

It is obvious the rest of the Arab leaders' attitudes hardened after watch Muburak leave Egypt. What can we cut off? Aid? Medicine? Weapons?

I thought we were no longer deal with Quadafi/Kadafi. What can as Americans use to bargain for these people's lives?

48. I'm very sad to report that Mo was killed by Gaddafi's forces today...
Libya: Mohammed "Mo" Al Nabbous, founder of Benghazi webcast "Libya Alhurra TV," killed in firefight

Via LibyaFeb17.com and via the Twitter updates from NPR's Andy Carvin, terrible news that the brave citizen journalist Mohammed Al-Nabbous, known to fans as "Mo," was killed last night.

From currently available information, it appears Mo was killed in a firefight, while recording.

Mo created and operated the widely-viewed live video channel Al Hurra TV on Livestream, broadcasting raw footage and commentary from Benghazi, Libya.

Andy Carvin writes:

Mohammad Nabbous was my primary contact in Libya, and the face of Libyan citizen journalism. And now he's dead, killed in a firefight. A few hours ago he went out to record some more audio and was caught in a firefight. . Audio stops 6:30 into it. For several hours we heard rumors that he had been shot but we didn't want to say anything until we knew for sure. And now I can't stop thinking, what if those French planes began to arrive 12 hours ago. Would Mo be alive now? I just don't know.
