White House meets lobbyists off campus

Caught between their boss’ anti-lobbyist rhetoric and the reality of governing, President Barack Obama’s aides often steer meetings with lobbyists to a complex just off the White House grounds — and several of the lobbyists involved say they believe the choice of venue is no accident.

It allows the Obama administration to keep these lobbyist meetings shielded from public view — and out of Secret Service logs kept on visitors to the White House and later released to the public.

“They’re doing it on the side. It’s better than nothing,” said immigration reform lobbyist Tamar Jacoby, who has attended meetings at the nearby Jackson Place complex and believes the undisclosed gatherings are better than none.

The White House scoffs at the notion of an ulterior motive for scheduling meetings in what are, after all, meeting rooms. But at least four lobbyists who’ve been to the conference rooms just off Lafayette Square tell POLITICO they had the distinct impression they were being shunted off to Jackson Place — and off the books — so their visits wouldn’t later be made public.

1. The ruling elite
always find "loopholes" around laws or regulations. Even the ones that they created to give the false appearance of transparency.
What a bunch idiots they have determined Americans to be. Rightly so in many cases...like voting.

3. Politico is a right-wing site.
So first I'd take anything they say with a grain of salt.

But if this could be confirmed somewhere else, that would really, truly suck.

WASHINGTON — There are no Secret Service agents posted next to the barista and no presidential seal on the ceiling, but the Caribou Coffee across the street from the White House has become a favorite meeting spot to conduct Obama administration business.

7. Damn...
So despite his promise to limit the influence of lobbyists, it's not really happening. Instead, they are deliberately working to lie to the public about whatever they are doing with lobbyists. :grr:

That promise about lobbyists was one of the few really good things Obama seemed to be doing. :(

far more than you. And your mistake is posted on the internet for the world to see too.

5. It seems odd to me that
I get a full body x-ray or felt up to board a commercial airplane while the Secret Service allows the President to meet with lobbyists who haven't been screened if he does it off campus and no log is kept.

8. This kind of chicanery
is no better than the spew from Glenn Beck. In fact, with Beck - it's so blatantly obvious (to anyone with half a brain) that he's lying. On the other hand, there's the public health care, comfortable shoes, stop the illegal surveillance, NO Bush tax cuts, etc., etc., etc sorta lying. Put to you SO NICELY that you don't even need some personal lube.
