It is so rare that the good guys win, but the HBGary V Anonymous was one of those times.
Someone should make a movie of this whole story. It really should be a movie.
I don't know who or what they are or how they came to be, but I love Anonymous!

Anonymous is not actually anonymous except in that no one involved in it reveals they are involved in public.
I know for a fact that anonymous is mostly just random people who met up from 4chan and discuss ways to attack people and organizations over irc.
Just go on 4chan.org and look at their own faq.

Anonymous invented the moon, assassinated former President David Palmer, and is also harder than the hardest metal known to man: diamond. His power level is rumored to be over nine thousand. He currently resides with his auntie and uncle in a town called Bel-Air (however, he is West Philadelphia born and raised). He does not forgive.

I've known people personally that are involved in this silly game these bored kids are playing.
Of course you've also got groups of older more experienced hackers involved but the majority of anonymous is a bunch of really bored youth who watch a lot of japanese anime, love to share pictures of porn (because they rarely get laid), and are doing everything they do for the "lulz".
It's silly and does little to nothing substantially productive while also ending up hurting innocent people and familys, emotionally, when the group-think leads to attacks on random people for the fun of it. They've been known to hack into peoples facebook accounts etc. and find their home phone number and have hundreds of people calling in at all hours of the day harrasing them and being lewd as possible for laughs.
People think anonymous is cool because they imagine some sort of noble group doing something important, which "anonymous" loves to self-style itself as, but in reality this type of thing is group think at it's worst.
You have a few people who whip up a campaign to attack anything and anyone deemed interesting enough to attack, and everyone else just follows because they want to be a part of anonymous and they are bored, not because they actually know what the hell they are talking about and have an opinion of their own, or have any interest in saving the world.

Thank you to someone you were once taught to feel and did feel contempt for. Because you were told their were Criminals? Besides a few Dollars of which I have few of,Will This Do?
