15. It's not draining.

When I was a kid, I too had visions of "whirlpools" being this giant sucking vortex, like a massive toilet. :)

This is probably just a result of currents draining back out to see causing a massive "eddy" off shore.

There is not a hole in the ocean floor with water going down.
