"... and we are gonna take this state back!

And yet there are those who tell us that "This isn't a farmer's issue." And these people have petty resentment that is amplified by right wing radio until they think that a fireman's pension is the problem.

And then there are groups that represent this evil. The Dairy Business Association was here on Wednesday for Ag Day in the Capitol saying "Hooray for Walker's budget." Well I want you to know, that those aren't farmers. They're agribusiness corporations with a few factory farmers in front. And I want Wisconsin and the world to know that this is the real Ag Day at the Capitol.

This issue, it's a farmer's issue because our rural schools are getting decimated by this budget and they are the centers of our small towns and rural communities. In my hometown of Athens, 14 of 44 teachers got pink slips, will be laid off, because of this budget. It's bad for our children's education; it's bad for the stability of our town; it's bad for the very future of our school district; and we say NO.

This issue is a farmer's issue because Scott Walker wants to hack Badger Care. Eleven thousand family farm members depend on Badger Care because of the exclusivity of for-profit health insurance companies and because of the pathetic and volatile price we receive for milk and other commodities that don't meet the cost of our production. We depend on this and we support Badger Care.

This is a farmer's issue because we have been battling…corporate power for more than a century. This budget could not be a clearer manifestation of corporate power. And we say NO.

This is a farmer's issue because public workers are our friends, and our neighbors and our family members, and we stand in solidarity with them.

We're all in this together. We go up together or we go down together.
And the way I see it is we got two choices: I can have my unions busted and stand alone and be pitted against my neighbor in a desperate and unequal economy.

Or WE can come together to say "This is what our families need. This is what our communities need. This is what a just wage is. This is what democracy looks like."

It's a farmer's issue because we understand, that an injury to one is an injury to all. Solidarity!

9. Protest NOT about Unions
Edited on Mon Mar-14-11 02:33 PM by Lefta Dissenter
I am a small business owner, and I have protested every day that I haven't been too sick to get out of bed.

The protest is about the bullying and crushing of the working class of our State and ultimately of our Country.

One of our state-owned power plants was in the process of being converted from coal to bio-fuel. One of the first things Walker did when he was in office was to stop that conversion. He'd rather fuel the plants with Koch-supplied coal than with Wisconsin farmer- or forester-supplied fuels.

11. I should have been more clear
Not JUST about unions.

You're hearing about the Unions because they have the biggest voice.

If you look at the "budget repair bill" and the new 2-year budget bill that Walker proposed, you'll see that this is an assault on working people and all middle/lower class.

15. You need to learn up on the issues;
You need to learn up on the issues, plural , issues that are affecting all of us. Adolf Hitler, I'm sure you have heard of him. Well, the first group he got rid of was the trade unionists. Look it up. Unless you make more than $250K a year and could care less about other peoples well-being than this movement is for and about YOU!
The rich are making this a war of class. Them against the rest of us. The problem is they are very good at propaganda, another skill of the guy mentioned above, and many who should be against the Koch Brothers and their ilk have been influenced into supporting their fascist right. The tide is changing. Hopefully fast enough.

5. Answer to #1: Family Farm Defenders
From their website:

Family Farm Defenders (FFD) incorporated as a non-profit organization in 1994 and was granted permanent 501(c)(3) status by the IRS in 1999. FFD began as an outgrowth of two national grass-roots campaigns: demanding a national referendum to end the mandatory check-off on raw milk that funds the lobby and propaganda efforts of the corporate dairy industry; and to defend consumer “right to know” in response to the stealth introduction of recombinant Bovine Growth Hormone (rBGH) into the nation’s milk supply.

Our mission is to create a farmer-controlled and consumer-oriented food and fiber system, based upon democratically controlled institutions that empower farmers to speak for and respect themselves in their quest for social and economic justice. FFD has worked to create opportunities for farmers to join together in new cooperative endeavors, form a mutual marketing agency, and forge alliances with consumers through providing high quality food products while returning a fair price to farmers.

19. he is gonna be on ed schultz tonight
Edited on Tue Mar-15-11 04:16 AM by reggie the dog
1.his own farm is a co op, i dont know if he is a union or not but he is part owner of a co op farm where all workers are part owners.
2. of course they get subsidies, that is why he is on the left, he is not a hypocrite, he calls for SOLIDARITY! he says they dont get enough money for what they produce in his speech.
3. his whole operation is a co op, he is one of 150 owners, all the people that work there are equal part owners and they split profits, sounds like a damn good union to me.

the interests of rural and urban labor are the same, their enemies are identical! that is my new sig line.

"Community Supported Agriculture consists of a community of individuals who pledge support to a farm operation so that the farmland becomes, either legally or spiritually, the community's farm, with the growers and consumers providing mutual support and sharing the risks and benefits of food production. Typically, members or "share-holders" of the farm or garden pledge in advance to cover the anticipated costs of the farm operation and farmer's salary. In return, they receive shares in the farm's bounty throughout the growing season, as well as satisfaction gained from reconnecting to the land and participating directly in food production. Members also share in the risks of farming, including poor harvests due to unfavorable weather or pests. By direct sales to community members, who have provided the farmer with working capital in advance, growers receive better prices for their crops, gain some financial security, and are relieved of much of the burden of marketing." http://www.nal.usda.gov/afsic/pubs/csa/csa.shtml

22. Furthermore, He Contributes to the Community through CSA
(Community Supported Agriculture). The community is able to support him when they buy shares of his produce....They get the wholesome/organic food and he gets income from that...The $$$ go directly into the community.

I doubt that he is getting income from Birds Eye which in fact more than likely is a subsidiary of Monsanto - which is more and more the case these days as corporations control greater and greater shares of our food supply from GMOs to store packaging...

He also notes that his family has been in the farm business for three generations - in fact his workers could be family members...

set the tone and energy level for the day. I was so thrilled to have been there and just a few yards from the podium. These videos just can't do justice to the energy in the crowd that day. The buildings shook, reverberating the cheers of the crowd later in the day for the "Fab 14". There was a photographer with a make-shift black backround booth taking photos of people with their signs for the archives. People all over the world realize that this is so much bigger than Wisconsin. It's hard for us here, caught in the middle at ground level to grasp that.
