If you think about it for a few minutes, the reasons for Beck throwing O'Keefe under the bus like this become less baffling:
1) Any Beck-watcher (not to be confused with a Beck viewer) can tell you he's in trouble at Fox. His audience has fallen off drastically as only the fringiest fundie right-wingers continue to buy in to his conspiracy theories. He may be attempting regain some credibility in an attempt to claw his way back toward the Center Far Right. How better to do that than by calling out a fellow zero-credibility right winger? Especially since someone was bound to notice that this was an O'Keeffe tape sooner or later, right? So look- now Glenn Beck is suddenly seeming to have a bit more journalistic integrity, right?
1a) An alternative possibility is that- as previously noted- Glenn Beck is in trouble at Fox. This could have been a desperation move to win back a piece of his audience, or it could be that his sources tell him that the jig is already up and his pink slip is imminent. This could be a parting 'fuck you' to Fox, who is once again running with the O'Keeffe football.
2) I happened to see a piece in
the Atlantic which mentioned that The Blaze is run by a guy named Scott Baker, who was co-founder and former editor of Breitbart.tv. So the guy who most likely greenlighted the expose' used to work for Breitbart. Sort of the same relationship Breitbart had with Arianna Huffington, and listen to how he talks about her these days.
I bet Breitbart's a real
dream to work for... I wonder how many other ex-employees he's got who would just
love to have an opportunity like this fall into their laps...
So that's my take. Hope everybody feels enlightened now.
