29. what lie?
I agree Vietnam was begun by the gulf of tonkin lie, the spanish american war with the uss maine lie, but the UN is calling for this action in order to protect people who have said enough is enough to a dictator. There is 30% unemployment in Libya according to state figures and estimates that it is higher. In Yemen the state says there is 35% unemployment and 49 demonstrators were killed today in Yemen as per the french press. would it be morally wrong for us to defend these people who simply want to throw off dictators? as a UN effort you are opposed? I think the UN should have stopped the genocide from happening in rwanda too. sometimes war in necessary out of self defense and so now france has said to the UN basically "we fucked up and sold this asshole arms, we know what he has, and we want to protect the freedom fighters from him because he is, indeed, an asshole dictator and his people have rightfully rebelled, let us help the UN do something here" and the UN is going to give their decision.

if i am missing something please fill me in as i would not want to condone a war based on a lie but i dont see a lie in this one.

5. Transcript at C-Span link ...
but he also stated for the record, once again, how we were led to war based on lies. Here is today's record of speeches from cspan (including Kucinich) you have to scroll down to the 15:45 mark for the beginning of his speech.

Thanks for posting, at least one person in Congress does not forget the lies and subsequent lives that were lost, not to mention the financial burden and lost opportunity placed on our citizens and country.

"06:40:18 THANK YOU VERY MUCH, MR. SPEAKER.
06:40:29 MARCH THE 20TH, 2003, EIGHT YEARS AGO, THE UNITED STATES LAUNCHED A FULL SCALE ATTACK ON IRAQ.
06:40:43 MANY OF US REMEMBER WATCHING THE IMAGES OF SHOCK AND AWE AS VIOLENCE WAS WREAKED AGAINST THE PEOPLE OF IRAQ AND IN PARTICULAR THE CITY OF BAGHDAD.
06:41:06 NOW THAT MOMENT AT WHICH AMERICA ARRIVED TO EXPRESS ITS MILITARY MIGHT HAD ANT SEED ANTS THAT WE SHOULD STUDY THIS EVENING.
06:41:21 I WANT TO REVIEW, MR. SPEAKER, THE CLIMATE THAT WAS CREATED FOR THIS CONGRESS THAT CAUSED THIS CONGRESS TO MAKE A DECISION BACK IN OCTOBER OF 2002 TO GO TO WAR AGAINST IRAQ, A WAR THAT WAS EXECUTED BEGINNING MARCH 20, 2003.
06:41:49 IT WAS NINE YEARS AGO TO THIS DAY THAT VICE PRESIDENT CHENEY SAID THE FOLLOWING OF IRAQ, WE KNOW THEY HAVE BIOLOGICAL AND CHEMICAL WEAPONS........"

Transcript for this video...
http://www.c-spanvideo.org/videoLibrary/clip.php?appid=599705067

"SO WHERE DO WE GO FROM HERE?
07:31:05 WELL, WE HAVE TO GET READY TO LEAVE IRAQ.
07:31:13 AND WE HAVE TO GET READY TO LEAVE AFGHANISTAN AND WE HAVE TO STOP BOMBING THE BORDERS ALONG PAKISTAN.
07:31:19 WE HAVE TO START WORKING WITH THE INTERNATIONAL COMMUNITY ON MATTERS OF SECURITY, AND IF WE NEED TO CONTINUE TO TRACK DOWN ANYONE WHO'S ASSOCIATED WITH MASS VIOLENCE AGAINST THE PEOPLE OF OUR COUNTRY OR ANY OTHER COUNTRY THAT SHOULD BE A MATTER OF INTERNATIONAL POLICE ACTION.
07:31:36 AND WE MUST STOP FOR THE POLICIES OF INTERVENTIONISM.
07:31:40 WE MUST STOP THE REACH FOR EMPIRE.
07:31:43 IT IS DESTROYING OUR NATION.
07:31:44 IT'S DESTROYING US MORALLY AND IT'S DESTROYING OUR CAPACITY TO BE ABLE TO MEET THE NEEDS OF THE AMERICAN PEOPLE FOR JOBS, FOR HOUSING, FOR HEALTH CARE, FOR EDUCATION, FOR RETIREMENT SECURITY.
07:31:57 WE HAVE TO CHALLENGE THE UNDERLYING PREMISE ABOUT WAR BEING INEVITABLE BECAUSE AS SOON AS PEOPLE START BEATING THE DRUMS OF WAR, THERE'S AN ENTIRE MARCHING GROUND AT THE PENTAGON -- BAND AT THE PENTAGON AND PEOPLE IN THE CONTRACTING BUSINESS WHO ARE READY TO TRY TO MAKE A CASE FOR WAR ANYTIME AND ANYPLACE.
07:32:16 WE HAVE TO BEGIN TO CRITICALLY ANALYZE THE MENTALITY THAT ISSUES FORTH, THAT CAUSES TO PUT SO MUCH OF OUR RESOURCES ON THE LINE.
07:32:28 GENERAL EISENHOWER SERVED FOR THIS NATION TWO TERMS.
07:32:35 HE SAID WE SHOULD BE AWARE OF THE MILITARY INDUSTRIALIZED COMPLEX.
07:32:39 WE HAVE TO BE CAREFUL WHAT WE'RE BEING TOLD AND THE MOTIVATION OF THOSE OUTSIDE OF THIS CONGRESS WHO ARE TELLING CERTAIN STORIES OF WHY WE SHOULD GO TO WAR.
07:32:50 IT'S TIME FOR US TO COME INTO RESONANCE WITH OUR POWER TO TRY TO ACHIEVE DIPLOMACY.
07:32:55 I AM NOT NAIVE ABOUT THE WORLD, BUT I ALSO UNDERSTAND THAT IF WE DO NOT TRY TO EXERCISE OUR CAPACITY TO RELATE TO PEOPLE IN OTHER PLACES, PEOPLE MAY HAVE DIFFERENT IDEOLOGIES, DIFFERENT RELIGIONS, DIFFERENT COLORS, CREED, IF WE DO NOT TRY TO PURSUE THAT THEN WE ARE DESTINED TO HAVE MORE WAR.
07:33:15 IF WE PURSUE WHAT PRESIDENT ROOSEVELT QUALITY THE SCIENCE OF HUMAN RELATIONS, THEN WE HAVE THE POSSIBILITY..............."

6. So the rutlhless move by the Libyan military to murder anyone...
that stands in the way of maintaining power is a lie? The Libyan rebels are liars who don't really want freedom? And Muammar Muhammad al-Gaddafi is a beneficient leader who loves his people?

Interesting argument.

11. Ozy, I keep wondering when human beings will stop wars.
As long as we find reasons to participate in the cycle wars won't end.

But of course the USA gave away most of our practical 'making things' jobs to India and China. What 'we' kept at home were the hevy arms manufacturing jobs. And directly ot indirectly the USA supplies the arms to thse conflicts.

36. Korporate Media Made Sure He wouldn't be a Contender..
If memory serves, it was the first primary "debate".. when the full line up of Democratic contenders were fed bullshit questions.. It seems like it was Georgie Porgie Stephanophois (sp?) who, when he finally got to Kucinich asked in the first question if it was true that he had seen a UFO. That was the end for Kucinich. They sucker punched him, and got away with it. Not DK's fault, but we should have hit the mattresses on that foul play. We didn't. We let GS get away with it... and the rest is history.

26. C'mon people,
Kucinich is himself lying, and you call his speech truthful and good? Get your heads out of your asses.

The US went into Iraq *not* "based on a lie." The US went into Iraq to secure oil resources, among other things, in a time of oil and production supply constraints. Talk reality.

32. That's right.
And they wanted the oil (Iraq doesn't export cabbages), and they wanted to play war, and they wanted bases in the oil-producing mideast, and they don't give a rat's ass about "costs," taxpayers will pay those thank you very much, and they don't give a shit about suffering soldiers, American or Iraqi, and they ...

Kucinic said none of this. Why? Because he's dissembling, evading, avoiding, prevaricating, withholding, hedging, dodging, equivocating.

And not to lay corporate raiding on neocons, democrats do a stunning good job of raiding in their own chosen vein.

Back to my regularly scheduled program on this channel: heads out of asses, folks.

"...

07:36:13 WE ARE ON THE EIGHTH ANNIVERSARY OF THE INITIATION OF THE WAR AGAINST IRAQ, MARCH 20, 2011.
07:36:27 IN THE LAST HOUR, MR. SPEAKER, I'VE SOUGHT TO CREATE A REVIEW OF THE RECORD OF WHAT WAS SAID AT THE TIME TO BRING ABOUT THE WAR, HOW THE PRESIDENT AND THE VICE PRESIDENT AT THAT TIME DID NOT TELL THE TRUTH TO THE AMERICAN PEOPLE, DID NOT TELL THE TRUTH TO CONGRESS, HOW THE CONSEQUENCES HAVE BEEN EXTRAORDINARY FOR THE PEOPLE OF IRAQ, FOR THE PEOPLE OF THE UNITED STATES, HOW MANY INNOCENT CIVILIANS DIED, HOW WE HAVE TO FIND A WAY TO RECONCILE WITH THE PEOPLE OF IRAQ, HOW WE WILL HAVE TO FIND A WAY TO RECONCILE AT SOME POINT WITH THE PEOPLE IN AFGHANISTAN, THE INNOCENCE WHO HAVE DIED, HOW WE HAVE TO RECOGNIZE THAT THERE ARE SOME THINGS IN THE WORLD THAT ARE BEYOND OUR CONTROL, THAT WE CAN'T TELL OTHER PEOPLE WHAT KIND OF POLITICAL SYSTEM THEY SHOULD HAVE.
07:37:19 WE CANNOT TRY TO REDESIGN THE WORLD ACCORDING TO WHAT OUR IDEA OF A DEMOCRACY IS.
07:37:24 WOULDN'T IT BE NICE IF HERE IN THE UNITED STATES WE ACTUALLY FOCUSED ON CREATING THE FULLNESS OF THE DEMOCRATIC PROCESS WHICH WE WERE ASSURED WOULD HAVE THE CHANCE TO UNFOLD WITH THE INDEPENDENCE OF THE UNITED STATES AND WITH THE CREATION OF OUR CONSTITUTION?
07:37:46 MR. SPEAKER, I INTEND TO KEEP BRINGING FORTH THE TRUTH OF WHAT HAPPENED THAT RESULTED IN THE UNITED STATES BEING TAKEN INTO WAR AGAINST IRAQ BASED ON LIES, AND I INTEND TO KEEP BRINGING FORWARD ALTERNATIVES SO THAT WE CANNOT JUST GET OUT OF IRAQ AND AFGHANISTAN BUT STOP THIS REACH FOR POWER ABROAD WHICH COMES AT THE EXPENSE OF OUR VITAL NEEDS AT HOME..."

42. Obviously we have a different read on the focus of this video ...
which, IMHO, sought to remind us of how US citizens were lied into a war of aggression and the consequences, both in lives lost and destroyed and also in economic terms for our our country.
The focus here was not Gaddafi, even though the anniversary of the Iraq invasion is happening simultaneously with events in Libya.

If we are to focus on the plight of people we cannot forget the innocent people in other countries and the possible consequences to a larger population, especially ...
