A parent spanking a child is one thing, but a teacher harming a child with a foreign object like this is inexcusable. Stories like these also hurt teachers who want to do the right thing, because they get lumped in with abusive teachers like these.

2. I have a hard time trusting teachers and principals since I had to confront a couple of them |

when my son's kindergarten teacher brought a paddle to the "reading carpet" during his first week of school. If you ever get the chance to talk face to face with a "paddler" you will know first hand what all the fuss is about. They are a breed unto themselves and as hostile and cold as the year is long. How else could you explain a principal telling me these two statements in defense of why 5 year olds were threatened with violence during the first week of school.
"If she (meaning the teacher) doesn't get control of her classroom, we won't get our TEST SCORES"
and
"I've ALREADY had to USE IT on one child from that class."
