The official trailer for John Pilger's film, 'The War You Don't See'
__________
'The War You Don't See' is a powerful and timely investigation into the media's role in war, tracing the history of 'embedded' and independent reporting from the carnage of World War One to the destruction of Hiroshima, and from the invasion of Vietnam to the current war in Afghanistan and disaster in Iraq. As weapons and propaganda become even more sophisticated, the nature of war is developing into an 'electronic battlefield' in which journalists play a key role, and civilians are the victims.

Includes an interview with WikiLeaks founder and editor-in-chief Julian Assange.

__________
John Pilger says in the film: "We journalists... have to be brave enough to defy those who seek our collusion in selling their latest bloody adventure in someone else's country... That means always challenging the official story, however patriotic that story may appear, however seductive and insidious it is. For propaganda relies on us in the media to aim its deceptions not at a far away country but at you at home... In this age of endless imperial war, the lives of countless men, women and children depend on the truth or their blood is on us... Those whose job it is to keep the record straight ought to be the voice of people, not power."

2. The War You Don't See – review
Documentary-maker John Pilger on the grotesque untruth of "weapons of mass destruction" and the cowardliness of the mainstream media taking the official line
__________
Peter Bradshaw
guardian.co.uk,
Thursday 9 December 2010

Documentary-maker John Pilger has returned to a subject that can't be revived often enough: the grotesque untruth of "weapons of mass destruction": a cloudy concept, eagerly amplified and lent credibility by credulous and submissive journalists who, after 9/11, lost their nerve en masse. Pilger's contention is that on Afghanistan, on Iraq and on Israel and the Palestinian territories, the mainstream media simply take the official line. The force of his film is in its contention that the colossal scale of civilian casualties is, within the grammar of news, downgraded in importance so that it doesn't figure as news at all, but as all-but-invisible deep background to be ignored. Pilger gives due respect to WikiLeaks, although his praise for al-Jazeera's independence is ironic, given that WikiLeaks has just revealed the possibility that the Qatar government is manipulating the channel.

I just watched it. I would definitely say it is well worth taking the time to watch it. If only more people would wake up and learn the truth...

High Blood Pressure Warning: There are some double speaking assholes from the BBC and ITN that are interviewed in part of the documentary. For the purpose of illustrating the truth in the movie, it was necessary to have their hem hawing around and bullshitting while refusing to take any responsibility for not doing their jobs. I see the point; why they were in the documentary. Still, they will make your bullshit meter smoke if it is finely tuned. Your blood pressure may go up too. Listening to them and their BS damn near made me blow my stack. :nuke:

Ethan McCord, seen in the infamous Collateral Murder video trying to save the kids only to be told by his CO to quit trying to help those kids, is in it too though. Listening to him is well worth it. In a just world, his CO, the one who condescendingly told him to quit worrying about those kids, would be punished severely AND stripped of any honors received in our military. Ethan McCord should be awarded the highest honor for caring about the well being of those kids and trying to help them. If only there were more like him higher up the chain of command...

And all that horrible stuff is done in our name, using our tax money, while they turn around and lie to us about it AND expect us to take them at face value when they have lied and lied and lied for so long now.

7. It has been said that these recent wars
have seen the most brutal troops ever fielded by the US army. I'm willing to believe that this is true.
