House Republicans are claiming NPR must be de-funded right now as they held an emergency meeting to take up legislation that would block funding to NPR in the wake of James O'Keefe's hidden camera prank on the news organization. But why de-funding NPR, constitute an "emergency". Sam Seder host of The Majority Report weighs in.

1. John Boehner has violated his own pledge
Boehner Violates Promise to Make Bills Public for 72 Hours before Consideration

In rushing through legislation that cut off funding to National Public Radio (NPR), House Speaker John Boehner has violated his own pledge to give the public at least three days to review a bill before taking it up.

On Tuesday, legislation was introduced that prevented the Corporation for Public Broadcasting from financing NPR operations. By Thursday, a little more than 48 hours later, House Republicans voted on the plan and approved it without any Democratic votes.

Earlier this year, however, Boehner publicly pledged that the House would wait at least 72 hours before considering any piece of legislation, to give the public time to learn about it and provide input.

2. Weiner Mocks GOP For Defund NPR Bill

Rep. Anthony Weiner (D-NY) thinks the House bill to defund NPR is completely ridiculous. And he thinks the Republicans who rushed it to the floor Thursday are wasting everyone's time.

The way he expressed his feelings to the nation? A sarcastic, mocking rant on the House floor.

"What a relief. I'm glad we got the economy back going. I'm so glad we secured our nuclear power plants. So glad Americans are going back to work," he said. "We discovered a target we can all agree on...it's Click And Clack."

For close to three minutes, Weiner went off on the Republican plan to zero out federal funds to NPR, a process that included an emergency hearing of the House Rules Committee on Wednesday.
