Labor movement could kick-start a ‘popular revolt’ in the U.S., Nader claims

http://www.rawstory.com/rawreplay/2011/03/labor-could-kick-start-u-s-democracy-revolution-nader-claims/

In an extended interview with Middle East news network Al Jazeera, consumer advocate and repeat U.S. presidential candidate Ralph Nader suggested that President Barack Obama is not supporting the labor movement because “they have nowhere else to go” except for Democrats.

“If he doesn’t stand up for those millions of workers, we might as well call him a president in a corporate prison called the White House,” Nader said, likening Obama’s “playing” of labor unions to the stretching of an elastic band.

4. FDL made the following comment about the interview
Pretty clear eyed analysis of the situation of the state of American unions by Nader being interviewed by Riz Khan. Worth a watch.

One thing Nader mentions that has been kicking around in my mind for some time is for the US to renegotiate or simply withdraw from most if not all multilateral trade agreements and to impose import tariffs on imported manufactured goods based on the cost of labor input to stop the race to the bottom on manufacturing wages, incentivize better wages in countries wishing to access the American market and protect US workers from Third World wage pressures. This has the potential not only to protect the interests of American workers, stimulate the economy by halting the downward slide in real earnings but also to provide a huge necessary public revenue source which in combination with massively reduced “defense”spending and cuts in corporate welfare in all its various forms could easily balance the federal budget without necessitating service or entitlement cuts.

7. We need more Democrats with Nader's beliefs.

Nader addresses the real problems in the USA which is about corruption and the mega wealthy interests and corporations that pull the strings of government and run the USA for their profits and special interests and not the common good.

It boggles my mind to see how many Democrats criticize him without rationale other than the brainwashing they have received from the enablers and corruptors of all of this.
