16. That's what the intellectually lazy say, yes...
Those of us who think things through before we come up with oversimplified one-liners know that, if it were about oil, we wouldn't be destabilizing the regime that used to hand us the oil.

8. Loved what your reply made me see!
When I read: "cannot protect all the civilians around the world from their leaders/governments/tyrants.", my mind sprung to how VERY LITTLE this administration has tried to protect union workers from their state tyrants! MAYBE if those governors would threaten to go door-to-door to find and persecute union members - maybe THEN we'd see some intervention from the White House. :grr:

7. I usually learn what's really going on,
as many things are 'left ' out of general media reports.
But almost wish I hadn't heard Keith's well-spoken summary -
it's scary to know even he has the same questions.

Obama has GOT to respond with some answers, the questions
are just too important now. I know he has to be careful, but
how is this expected to work out?

I have to admire people like KO and the guys over TYT for the effort they put into it every day. I know I dont have the energy to sit and analyze the BS -write it up, and take the fight to them like they do. They are in fact the special forces we have -the big brothers--that lead the way. I dont know if any education of the right wing gasbags I encounter everyday is possible--but I know that these guys are our front line.

11. The good ol' USA has always been lousy at negotiating.
Its in our genes to just go in and kick ash.
Love the quote "play the US like a two dollar banjo game."
The advantage that the totalitarian regimes and dictatorships have is their longevity. They can simply wait out the western leaders, led by a USA that changes its ideology every time the electorate gets convinced by political advertising to vote for a "change"... again.
The majority of US citizens don't know that our foreign policy constantly changes with the leadership. That is simply not in our best interest. State Department professionals are the ones whose word should be used to create consistent international relations.
In closing I would like to add: "Never, never, never, vote for a republican."

Keith prevented me from going completely insane during the W years.
thank you wundermaus, for posting.

While Ed and Rachel and Lawrence are all still(*AHEM*) on MSNBC and Cenk Uygur from the The Young Turks are all stellar voices for the progressive movement, it is Keiths "Special Comments" that I miss. Ed Schultz and Cenk really "go for the jugular" with their passion on TV these days, but it's Keith's show, Keiths voice, that i miss now, with GOPers running amok, and an almost absent president, that is needed now.

He could have been talking about puppies and kitties for all i care, just good to see & hear that wordsmithing in action again.

15. Wow. Now I'm GLAD he's gone from MSNBC. He's turned into a dumbass...
1. It's disgusting to call this operation in Libya "killing people". We are not killing people. Qaddafi is killing people and we are trying to stop that, just like the people of Libya have begged us to do.

2. Why not Tunisia and Egypt you ask, Mr Olbermann? Are you really that clueless or do you pose those questions to fit your ideological narrative? Somehow I don't recall the people of Tunisia and Egypt pleading for the help of the international community. Mubarak and Ben Ali weren't slaughtering their own people. The army was on the side of the protesters in both of those countries. Some hundreds of people died throughout, but not the 6,000 that Qaddafi had murdered in just one month.

The situations are very different. To compare them would be stupid, but Mr Olbermann is not stupid, so he must be deliberately omitting these facts to fit his ideological point of view, probably some kooky isolationist or outdated pacifist ideal that says war is never an option. Or maybe, like most of DU, Mr Olbermann is still stuck in 2003 and what the US does is always baaaaaaaaad.

Mr Olbermann, healthy criticism and critical questioning is good. Playing dumb and asking questions you know the answers to perfectly well, and framing the intervention in such a disgusting way is the wrong thing to do. Something they would do over at that other network. I guess Stewart was right with his comparison at his rally after all...

19. Excuse me, but...
I thought Keith had some pretty important points:

1. What is the end game? If we're there, as you suggest, because we were asked by the rebels to help, then what is it we are trying to accomplish? If it really is the overthrow of Qadaffi (sp?) then why is that message so garbled among Obama and his administration?

2. Why hasn't Obama come out and told us what we are doing there? I thought comparison to the "5-second-rule" was clever (though in my house it's the 10-second-rule. slow reflexes, I guess). If this were W we would be screaming for some kind of speech to Congress or to US or something.

3. We ARE killing people. I watched a clip of Sec. Gates being asked by some Congressional committee about implementing a no-fly zone, and he was very clear that the first thing you do is bomb their air-control and defense systems. And people would die in those bombings.

I'm not sure I agree with Keith's entire SO, but I thought he made some pretty cogent points. He may be a lot of things, but he is NOT a dumbass!

21. If this was George Bush it, I would be applauding and praising it too...
The UN Security Council's resolution specifically says Qaddafi is no goal; the goal is not regime change. Olbermann knows that but is playing dummy. What we are doing there, is making sure Qaddafi doesn't violate the no-fly zone and the weapons embargo. We are bombing air-control and defense systems, as you say yourself. And we do that to stop Qaddafi from slaughtering this own. It could happen that civilians die, but so far I haven't heard any such reports, except on Quadafi's propaganda tv. And I'd be more than willing to take the risk of accidentally hitting a few civilians if that stops Qaddafi from murdering yet *another* 6,000 people.

68. Irrelevant and a straw man point
We can NOT be the world's police. Momar has been around a long time and, oh woopsie, suddenly he is in our sights.

The hypocrisy of jumping in to help the Libyans at this particular point in time is just stunning when we have been extremely remiss with pretty much any assistance to a civilization with historically far greater casualties.

Follow the money. Fah low the mon nee.

Military Operations - humanitarian purposes only!

30. So according to Keith...
we should not have entered WW2, let the jews go to Hitlers ovens, because in the end of the day innocent people were killed? Such a thought process would mean that our country should never go to war no matter what the purposes are.

There will always be 'collateral damage'. But if the alternative is that Qaddafi murders an additional 6,000 people, I prefer our intervention.

You and a LOT of people on DU need to start putting these things into perspective.

36. I love Keith.
I quit watching MSNBC just because he was .....gone.

On this issue, this time, however, I'm not so certain. I think these actions by the U.S. might serve us in the future by showing the Muslim world that we have changed. God knows we need to change.

This time, unlike in the past, we are not on the side of a murderous dictator even if he has served our interests. And, although there is certainly collateral damage, the dictator would surely kill more civilians and enact all sorts of punitive measures against the rebels and their families.

All I'm saying here is, I'm not so sure this time.
