1. The game is probably gonna suck
the first one sucked and there is only one franchise that I know of that pulled their sticks out of the fire to create a great game after the first game sucked and that is the kill zone franchise.

2. Any "game" which desensitizes......
...the act of killing another human being SUCKS in my view. But then I'm an old-fashioned coot who still adheres to the established definition of the word "game" as being a form of amusement.

3. There is a correlation between the rise of violent video games
and the fall of violent crime in the US.

http://www.gamesbrief.com/2010/08/if-video-games-cause-violence-there-should-be-a-correlation-between-game-sales-and-violent-crime-right/

There is a chart at the link, I don't know how to post here.

5. I'm somewhat familiar with this theory....
...and its counterpart with respect to the promulgation of internet porn and the possibility of its having a positive impact in reducing sex crimes.

However, in my references above I'm not referring to how such games may result in the commission of violent crimes by the gamers who play them, but rather their acceptance of violence generally as a means of problem and conflict resolution. My question is: What effect will these games have over the long term in desynthesizing the generation of children who grew up watching and playing them. Ultimately, the value of the results of any study depends not only upon the way in which questions are presented, but what questions are actually being asked.

- So I ask again: Pixels? People? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Vw9DsOA1Y-w&feature=related">What's the difference???

2 brutal wars before TV, and all 4 before video games.

Video games will result in the acceptance of violence. right.

8. I can only speak for myself
but I grew up playing these games and for the most part, am anti-war. I also don't pick or start physical fights either.

14. Perhaps you should ask a different question
Why are parents allowing children to play games clearly labeled for adults?

4. The video is fair
Has both sides. Never played Call of Juarez but they were Westerns. I guess this new one is more modern. Reviews for the original are alright, haven't checked out the prequel to that.

12. Call of Juarez was OK, it plays out like a typical western...
Edited on Thu Mar-24-11 06:12 PM by Umbral
maybe more like a typical spaghetti western - very cliche. This new entry looks like Ubisoft's attempt to bring the franchise into the modern day, like Infinity Ward did with Call of Duty. I'll wait for the Demo.

13. Thanks
As far as westerns go, I really loved Red Dead Redemption so I imagine playing any other Western game would probably be a let down.

6. What's the difference???

Well if you can't tell the difference, I can't help you.

I like how some seem to forget we had 2 brutal wars at the beginning of the last century before movies, 2 more before TV, and both before video games, and thousands before the rise of either.

Face it, the human race is violent. It's better to have outlets in other ways other then wars.

10. Fwiw, there is a very popular genre of Mexican music that glorifies
narcotraficantes, and for the life of me I can't remember the term. Maybe somebody else can pipe in. Anyway, just as some forms of US Music glorify criminals, there has been a long tradition in Mexico of glorification of the drug trafficking kingpins. In their communities (and this was all prior to the recent violence in Mexico), the drug kingpins are well known for charity - giving money to build schools, playgrounds, etc. and are often seen as folk heroes.
