1. Well, that would sure guarantee a Republican President in '08.

5. I did, and was disappointed that he never answered the question.
He dodged it by pointing to his high support. But he never said whether he'd run third party if he wasn't the nominee. And he praised Ralph Nader -- which I didn't like to hear, at least in this context.

11. if i may, there are few who are more angry at nader than
i am. i'd just like to clarify one thing. the words kucinich used, about nader's fight for consumers, are the usual words of those of us who held nader as a hero of consumer activism, but opposed his running for president. i feel kucinich was very careful, and clearly deliberate in using those words.

i also heard him say that there is no reason to even wonder about the "if" here, when he intends to win. if all of all the spectrum he noted will vote for him, he will win. all that stops that from happening is the "can't win" meme that is all that can defeat him.

- i'm sorry, i must add that i always say such things knowing but avoiding facing the massive massive massive threat of election fraud..... sigh... (and i, as many others, also see that diebold et al would likely *let* a dlc 'dem' 'win') -

that part aside, for this discussion, dennis kucinich is correct that he truly is the candidate who best represents the true majority of this country.

progressive dem's are the true majority.

peace

12. Thank you for this reply, nofurylike... and for taking the time to actually WATCH the video,
... for basing your comments on the content of the video, rather than just responding to the title of the video. I considered using a different subject line for my OP ("Dennis Kucinich - the Mainstream Democrat"), rather than the video's title. I should have followed my instincts.

Yes, it would be an excellent idea to repost w/that title, but the video forum is set up so that duplicate videos can't be posted! Bah!

8. I don't have to watch the video to know the answer
Until we have legislation in effect that support IRV (Instant Runoff Voting) and proportional representation, a third party will always be a self defeating entity. I love Kucinich as a candidate and believe if people had the courage of their convictions, he would be the candidate of choice. Unfortunately, I must accept the pragmatic realities of the world we live in. In a "winner take all political system", you'll never be able to elect the candidate that best represents your interests. Until the people change the political landscape so that money has no greater influence than an individual vote, we'll always be on the dirty end of the stick.

At some point you have to consider what is the better option. Would you rather elect some moderate Republican because the choice of Democrats weren't that different? I'll support Kucinich in the primaries and promote his policies to anyone willing to listen. If he doesn't win, I,ll jump on the nominee to adopt his ideals or make him part of the administration. I think that's the best I can hope for in the world we live in.

7. Interesting question...this third party stuff and all

I've not been a fan of Nader for quite some time, feeling that he had spoiled (at least he was partially responsible) our chance of defeating the Bush regime.Still,I might be persuaded to vote third party if Kooch was the candidate...especially since it appears to me that the Dem Party has abandoned me.

Call it a protest vote if you will....but at some point in time, something has to be done. The sooner the better....disaster is just around the corner. We could vote Repuke,or we can vote "bobble-head",but in the end,we still take it in the shorts with the 2 party system the way it is.

9. Some of you have been reading the mainstream media again. There is no cause for despair.
Edited on Sun Sep-23-07 05:44 AM by Perry Logan
There's no need to quit and screw things up with third parties. One need only apprise oneself of the facts:

"President Bush's success rating in the Democratic-controlled House has fallen this year to a half-century low, and he prevailed on only 14 percent of the 76 roll call votes on which he took a clear position.

"So far this year, Democrats have backed the majority position of their caucus 91 percent of the time on average on such votes. That marks the highest Democratic unity score in 51 years."
http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=show_mesg&forum=389&topic_id=1728952&mesg_id=1728952
http://public.cq.com/documents/cqt/news110-000002576765.html

So--given only a marginal majority in both houses--the Dems are more united than at any time in the last fifty years. Why, then, this weeping and wailing and gnashing of teeth?
