1. Even if all of the 17% in-determinant went for the Repuglics. . .
that would still be 52% to 48%.

Please "God" we need real Angels to guard the vote in '08!

Republicans' Outlook Dims for '08

By JOHN HARWOOD
June 14, 2007

WASHINGTON -- The race for the 2008 Republican presidential nomination has become wide open, a new Wall Street Journal/NBC News poll shows. But the value of winning it has fallen sharply.

The survey shows that without formally entering the race, former Tennessee Sen. Fred Thompson has risen to second place in the Republican field. Former New York City Mayor Rudy Giuliani continues to leak support, but leads the pack with 29% to Mr. Thompson's 20%, while former Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney has pulled even with Sen. John McCain at 14%.

Of greater concern for Republicans generally, however, is the party's weak state heading into the 2008 election. By 52% to 31%, Americans say they want Democrats to win the presidency next year.

7. It's not so much the GOP that's despised....
It's Bush and Company.

My brother (an auditor for the IRS!) recently visited me here in Atlanta. We're both in our 50s, 15 months apart, and have taken wildly divergent career paths that probably contributed to me being more liberal than him.

When I delicately raised the question of GWB, he about burst a blood vessel. "Hate 'em! Worst President the nation's ever had. Makes Carter look good. Bush is DUMB as a box of bricks. And his goons, Cheney and Rumsfeld and Rove (even though the latter two have departed) took advantage of Bush's IQ (described by my brother as being around room temperature) to help start a war in Iraq that they didn't know how to end, and as far as the subprime market scandal is concerned, they LET it happen, just like they supported the huge tax cuts for the wealthy, because they wanted to make their rich selfish friends even richer at the expense of the middle and working classes".

Now that's not an EXACT quote, but it's close enough. And his GOP friends (he says) feel the same way. Come next November, they'll be voting against Republicans. Not for Democrats, but against the GOP.

Any port in a storm....

8. That's a really important point
Edited on Sun Sep-23-07 04:13 PM by MindMatter
The congress, which is controlled by Dems, has a 12% approval rating.

Ghouliani beats Hillary in every head-to-head poll, and Hillary is never going to get over that hump. Americans know her as much as they want to. They made their decisions about her years ago, and aren't going to change.

At this point, the GOP is in the driver's seat for the White House. There is still plenty of time for a viable candidate to take the lead. I believe without hesitation that either Edwards or Biden could win the White House. But if the Dems nominate anybody else, it is going to be a very sad November in 2008.

If Obama is the VP on a ticket with either Edwards or Biden, that becomes almost a slam duck, and the kind of scenario that could give us 16 years to clean up the Reagan/Bush criminality -- if those guys can manage to stay away from their interns.

12. There was one reported this week
I can't find that national one right now. Here's one that covers selected states and generally has them about tied. We know that election fraud has been a big factor for the GOP, so going in tied is as good as losing.
http://cincinnati.bizjournals.com/cincinnati/stories/2007/08/06/daily27.html?jst=s_cn_hl

Here are several that show Clinton with a slight edge, again, not nearly enough to overcome the certain GOP election fraud.
http://www.realclearpolitics.com/epolls/2008/president/national.html

The big problem is not where the polls stand today. The big problem is that Hillary has no upside potential. People already know her. They aren't going to like her any more a year from now than they do today. And making her the candidate will be the greatest motivator the GOP could ever get to rally their voters.

13. Possibly some truth to that
however the GOP leadership has some REAL liabilities. That and the continued "Larry Craig" type disclosures coming to the forefront on a near weekly basis. Almost predictable that someone like Guiliani gets "Ted Haggarded" in an outing or whatnot.

Add that factor in and Hillary looks damn tough to beat.
