2. I still miss Carlin and always will. |
|
He used his mind to think and was able to put his thoughts and philosophy into a practical context. Humor was his vehicle and he rode it expertly. That's one person who had a strong impact on the rest of us and I am thankful for that.

3. If you want to hear enlightened people |
|
listen to the comedians.
The last place you'll find enlightenment is in the pulpit of a church.

It's the artists who will tell us the truth, which is probably why arts classes are always cut first in schools and public support for the arts is criticised as something "we can't afford," ESPECIALLY by republicans.

4. We really miss you George |
|
If only people like Carlin weren't one-in-a-million- Or at least if more of the other 999,999 took them more seriously instead of just laughing at their jokes- imagine what the world would be like.
You know the world's in for serious trouble when the comedians are the sensible ones and the politicians are the clowns.

5. I remember he said that Obama gave him a flicker of hope... |

I guess it's a good thing he didn't live to experience the disappointment of the Obama Presidency. how sad....

16. Yeah, that would make a great bumper sticker eh,. |

"The pile of Shit is too deep."
I too was once an idealist,. now I am slowly transitioning to George's view, it is just too much stupidity to deal with in any meaningful way. I just can not seem to give up those last remnants of hope that some how it COULD change,. I don't' see it happening, anywhere but still depending on my mood I am some time hopeful,. and that is my downfall. I suppose it is like the lottery i still some times buy a ticket so I can have the daydream that I could win and get farther away from the rest of you insane monkeys, and live simply in harmony with nature in some level of comfort.

7. I prefered the late-life truth to all Carlin to all his other phases... |
|
In the last year of his life and in his final performances, Carlin achieved a level of honesty in his work and his commentary that the rest of the Corporate Media Machine is utterly incapable of to this day. I too miss his wit and insight but cherish things like this interview that I had not previously seen in its entirety. Thanks for posting it!

Been a fan since the hippy-dippy weatherman and not about to change now.
I shop George's "Corporations Own You" vid all the time here on DU. An extremely concise and insightful summary of why we are so fucked*.
I wish us Americans had some solidarity to overthrow our evil corporate overlords! But, we've been drinking the Nazi inspired corporate propaganda for at least 30 years. That makes it even harder to participate in our democracy, which needs an INFORMED POPULOUS to work good.
Yup, the Top 1% have sure figured out how to screw over all of us in the bottom 99%!
-90% jimmy
*originally spelled "phucked" to make it less offensive. DU spell checker actually corrected it for me!

11. Always love George Carlin, but ... |
|
think he's a little less sharp here --
don't think he meant to sound anti-environmental --
and not sure that the planet will keep endlessly turning --
with the havoc we've created with Global Warming, no one can be sure of that any longer.
Still love him --

the Earth will shakes us off likes fleas when we've done enough damage to end our own existence.
Insects and plants will survive and take over, thought I am rethinking this considering how nuclear waste remains toxic for over 10,000 years. At worst, large areas in Asia, Europe and America will be uninhabitable for millennia, long after humans are extinct.

14. He did mention insects... |
|
He alluded to the insects taking over after the mammals are gone. And most insects can survive in radiation that would kill a human, or mammal. Who knows. Maybe insects will, and should, evolve intelligence. There is a billion of them for every pound of human flesh on the planet!

Global Warming is bringing increasing earthquakes -- and increasing severity.
Some say, volcanic activity should be included in GW -- we've seen that in Japan, as well.
This earthquake shifted the planet off its axis by roughly 4 inches --
The dams and reservoirs that the Army Corps of Engineers built over the past 60 years
have also been impacting the rotation of the earth. Many recommend these dams be taken down
for myriad number of reasons - all having to do with saving nature.
There is no guarantee that the planet will keep turning --
As scientists have been telling us since '92 at least -- though we've known about Global
Warming since the mid-1950's -- "there is no way to know how all of this will compound" -- !!
Anyone ever mention a earthquake measuring 9 followed by a tsunami washing over a nuclear reactor?
And didn't the atomic age unleasch "Death" -- imo, yes it did.
Ironically, we dropped atomic weapons on Japan where the atomic era begins --
"Ban the Bomb" was a threat to the MIC -- they knew nuclear weapons couldn't be used because
they were so damaging -- but they wanted to hold onto them which meant limiting the public's
fear -- and evidently using atomic energy for "PEACEFUL MEANS" was their answer.
A really, really suicidal answer.
Here's a comment by a woman from the Bikini Islands after we had nuked her homeland in testing
nuclear weapons ....
"Americans are really smart about really stupid things" --

the part about worry about disposing of "diapers" --
generally, pollution of the planet -- plastics very damaging!
Agree with you on that "rethinking" -- plutonium last 240,000 years?
Where's Helen Coldicott when you need her?
Again -- I still love George Carlin!! Always will!
He's done a great deal to wake up people --
and most often that seems to be his main cause -- his mission in life!!

and so missed. Hard to pick a favorite among so many gems, but I absolutely love his rant on religion. ITA with the posters here who preferred his later work. When he was younger he was creating characters and going for more for laughs. As he got older he seemed to be more himself, going after hypocrisy and stupidity. I was always amazed at how he could fire off these complex, intelligent, rapid-fire rants right through his 60s.
