And then we have Newt Gingrich. Newt Gingrich, to me, has become a complete joke. He will say anything at this point. We heard him talk about... we heard his flip-flop on Libya. He first wanted to do a no-fly zone tonight, then he said Obama shouldn't have intervened, then his explanation was a bizarre analogy that even conservative Matt Lewis from The Daily Caller said holds no water. Gingrich will say anything at this point, Louis.

On cheating, he said the reason he had this affair was because he loved the country so much. Well, I guess by that logic, then, Bill Clinton was a hell of a guy. He must really have loved the country, right?

Louis: Oh, yeah.

David: But wait a second, Gingrich is one of the people who actually was going after Bill Clinton, and he was asked about that, he was asked about that on Fox News by Chris Wallace. Let's hear Newt Gingrich dig himself an even deeper hole, even a more... I don't even know what, a hole we can't even decipher.

Newt Gingrich: ... kind of leader they want for this country.

Chris Wallace: There's something else that bothers people.

David: Yeah.

Chris Wallace: You were leading the charge to push Bill Clinton from office for lying about an affair. And yes, he lied in a court proceeding, in a deposition where he had sworn to tell the truth, the whole truth and nothing but the truth, but at the very same time that you were leading that charge, you were having an affair.

David: Right.

Wallace: Isn't that hypocrisy?

Gingrich: No, I... look, obviously it's complex and obviously I wasn't doing things to be proud of. On the other hand, what I said very clearly, and I knew this, in part, having gone through a divorce, I had been in depositions. I had been in situations where you had to swear to tell the truth. I understood that in a federal court, in a case in front of a federal judge, to commit a felony, which is what he did, perjury was a felony. The question I raised was very simple: should the president of the United States be above the law? Now, I don't think the president of the United States can be above the law. And it's not a...

David: OK, so he's just redirecting to this thing. It's amazing how Gingrich says that this is complex, OK? Listen to the narrative, ladies and gentlemen, that we have been bamboozled into. When John Kerry, distinguished war veteran, presidential candidate, representative of the country around the world, has a nuanced position about funding the war in Iraq, he is ridiculed because it is nuanced and it is complex and there is much discussion to be had. But when Newt Gingrich is asked wait a second, you went after Bill Clinton for his affair at the same time that you were having an affair. Explain. It's complex. It's too complex to even explain, so he has to just go into stuff about depositions. Does anybody else not see the incredible hypocrisy with this nuance and complexity nonsense?

Louis: Newt Gingrich says it's OK to lie as long as you're not doing it in front of a federal judge.

Louis: Right.

David: Excellent news.

Louis: Yeah.

David: Is that what you're telling us, Newt?

Louis: Great. Thanks, Newt.

David: And then he even went further, and it really, Newt Gingrich has just, what is he doing at this point, ladies and gentlemen? He is worried...

Louis: He's running for president, that's what he's doing.

David: He's worried that the United States... I can't even almost say this because it's so absurd... could be, the United States could be a, quote, "secular atheist country, potentially one dominated by radical Islamists".

I mean, come on! Who... what... he's hitting all the Tea Party buzzwords, right? Radical Islamists, secular atheist country, but why on Earth would radical Islamists, people who would kill themselves and others in the name of religion, go through all that trouble to impose secular atheism? I mean...

Louis: Yeah. Very strange stuff.

David: Have you seen anything like this before?

Louis: No. Sounds like he's going to run on the platform like if you don't elect me, you're going to die.

David: Or a religious sect will impose atheism on you.

Louis: Radical Islamists will impose atheism.

David: They'll take away God and make you not believe in any god.

Louis: Wow.

David: It's incredible what is going on with Newt Gingrich.

1. No more a contradiction than wooing the "Christian" Right with a casino billionaire's lucre.

2. America, the D's and the R's, are so upside down
because they are a "Wall Street Government." The vast majority of both "sides" (lol), are so corrupted by money, that they can not keep their stories straight. One lie, of course, requires another one and another to support the original lie. The veil has been lifted especially since the "Citizens United" fix.
The only question left is "How Long."
How long before the bottom (let's say 70%, because maybe 30% are placated) rise up and say "enough?" The longer it takes for that to happen, the longer we suffer and they prepare.
We must Unite. Overcome our petty differences (most of them fueled by MSM) and act.
If we keep waiting, they will win.
"We are the ones we have been waiting for."

4. The "Citizen's United" ruling plus electronic voting means that they've already won
Edited on Sun Apr-03-11 11:41 AM by Lorien
They don't need us anymore and they know it. It's why the GOP is being so boldly ruthless and cruel these days, and why Obama doesn't even try to hide his inner Neo-con anymore. They have all the power. He or she who offers the most to corporate America and the top 1% wins the election. It's that simple. And after 30 years without a Fairness Doctrine the people are so easily manipulated that they'll actually blame underpaid school teachers for the bankster's dirty work if told to. Fight back? We can't even get 10% of DUers to agree that the Fairness doctrine needs to be reinstated, much less create a movement to make that happen. Or overturn Citizen's United, or demand real campaign finance reform. Or even elect a third party candidate. We won't do any of the things that it will take to change the course; subconsciously they've taught us all that demanding anything different than the status quo is "crazy" and "radical", so 99% of the underclass will remain completely uninvolved. I wish that I believed that a revolution were possible, but as long as they control the MSM there's no way to wake anyone up. If their lives are crap they'll believe that "government handouts to the poor who don't want to work" are to blame, not the megacorps who just sent their job to India and raised their health insurance 400%.

8. Luckily for Gingrich his supporters are all idiots.

Didn't somebody once say "How fortunate for governments that the people they administer don't think."? Hmmm, now who was that?

(Before everybody on DU responds, it was a rhetorical question- I know who it was. It was one of Prescott Bush's business partners.)

They missed a chance to really zing old Newtie though- When he said that presidents are not above the law they could have really zapped him by then asking him about BushCo. But then, I guess it was Fox "News" doing the interviewing, so the fact that they even asked about the affair was tougher than one might expect.
