I used this in an exchange today, because the bonehead just wasn't getting the ratio.

You run a company that has $26 Million in annual sales. You are cutting costs and find that the secretaries have been spending $1 from petty cash EVERY WEEK on candy for the waiting room. Not a necessary expenditure (we may all agree), so you spent hours discussing this completely unnecessary expense. Gotta start somewhere! In fact, there must be MANY of these $1 items that you can cut.

Same proportion, same ridiculous assumption that there can be enough of these to make a difference. Company is in the red, and this is what the board needs to hear because every frivolous expense must be addressed. $1 a week now successfully slashed from the expense side. Wooooo hoooooooooo!
