Cenk Uygur on the fundamentalist Christian Pastor Terry Jones who backed off of his plan to burn Korans on the anniversary of September 11th only to later hold an April 'trial' that resulted in the Muslim holy book being burned. An outraged group of radical Muslims in Afghanistan raided a United Nations compound and killed several people.

1. Cenk simply does not understand...
Folks in Afghanistan & other parts of the Islamic world are literally Centuries behind the West in terms of thinking! Life to them does not have the same value as it does to us in the West!

If a 5yr old takes candy away from a 3yr old th 3yr old will cry & there is nothing you can really do about it...The same applies to the Afghans when it comes to their "holy book" & the Pastor!!

The Pastor deserves partial blame & to be shunned by all especially the media! But that won't happen either. Now this pastor feels empowered just like a 5yr old who can take candy from a 3yr old...This Pastor will do something again just to watch what happens. At some point folks like Cenk will see the Pastor deserves blame!

3. Considering what a low value we place on human life
(unless it's embryonic life, of course), it's scary to think of how disposable those cultures must feel life is. That's the problem with religion...this life is but a short time in the sun, followed by an eternity of paradise if you do exactly what the church elders tell you to do. As an atheist, I celebrate life because of its enormous unlikelihood...think of all the untold trillions of potential people who were never even born and now think how fortunate you are to have the spotlight of existence shine on you for even a brief human lifetime. The fact that this is our only chance, our only life, our only shot at this crazy thing is what makes life truly precious. Religion only diminishes that and leads to depredations of exactly this kind.

Say a woman hires a hit man to kill her husband, she didn't pull the trigger, but by her actions, she is just as responsible as the person who did pull the trigger. I blame this "pastor" as much as I blame the murderers who actually did the killings.

He was warned what would happen and he didn't care. You have crazies in all religions who take it waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay too seriously.

5. That's not really a good analogy
the woman who hires the hit man is paying someone to carry out a contract. Terry Jones made no formal arrangement with anybody. That's not to stick up for Terry Jones- he may not have personally killed anyone, but he knew something like this would happen. (Notice I didn't say he had to have known- that implies that anyone with any sense should have known, or that there could have been any doubt in his mind that something like this would happen) And now that fucking idiot has bought us at least another 5 years in Afghanistan through this little stunt of his. (This is assuming that you believe that we are actually planning to leave sometime)
