9/11 'mastermind' denied right to civil court trial, will go to Gitmo

The alleged mastermind of the 9/11 attacks on the U.S. has been denied the right to be tried in a civil court. Instead he will face a military commission at Guantanamo Bay. Khalid Shaikh Mohammed and four other terror suspects will be put on trial at the detention centre Obama previously vowed to abolish. Unable to overcome political opposition against the closure of the centre, the U.S. President recently lifted a freeze on new military terror trials. The suspect has been held by the US since being captured in Pakistan in 2003. He has confessed to a host of terrorist activities in addition to 9/11.

When I heard this announced this morning on Democracy Now!, I wondered "why?" Why are the trials of these men to be kept from public scrutiny? Is there something that the "shadow government" wants to be kept hidden?

Might as well close as many cases as we can here. Shouldn't there be a disclaimer with that "has confessed to a host of terrorist activities..." to note that these confessions were made under duress?
