The MN Legislature has made lower taxes for the wealthy a top priority. While the Billionaires' effective rate of 7.7% is much lower than the middle class rate of 10.3%, the Legislature would rather balance the budget on the backs of the poor, elderly, disabled and middle class. While Minnesota is facing a $5 billion deficit, legislators are slashing funds for education, mass transit, healthcare, parks, and road repair. They have not approved any bill that would raise taxes on the wealthiest citizens of the state.

1. Don't worry: It'll trickle down to us!
It will, won't it?...won't it? It will, won't it? Huh?

6. Don't be so impatient
Trickle Down theory has only had thirty years to see if it works.

We hope to see the benefits a-tricklin' sometime in the 2030 decade.

You don't seem to have much faith in the PTB. Go do some volunteer work for the homeless millionaires in your neighborhood. It will help you be more humble next time.

Powers that be just one of the many acronyms I've learned here on the DU. I'm still ignorant of what "n/t" is all about!

Carlin's 3:15 minutes cut to the core quicker and with a lot more quality that any ten pundits out there. Be happy with what you've got!

Welcome to DU! Glad to have you here.

Ps - i googled "acronym" to make sure I was using the word correctly and VIOLA!

Your acronym problems are all behind you now!

(So are mine!)

11. Yeah, the Carlin video is great.
So true - people are buying the bs that we have to ax all these programs to "balance the budget". Raising taxes on the uber rich is out of the question.

21. nt means 'no text'. It is just a courtesy.
For example this message has text. The n/t, nt or NT just tells the reader not to bother clicking on the blue message link because the entire message is contained in the header.

3. And there are all these studies about how the rich are getting richer -
but I guess they give a lot of campaign contributions, so legislators are afraid to mess with that. So corrupt.

9. love these videos
I loved it when they were able to talk to one of the Republican Reps. I also liked the info they put into video. I look forward to seeing these "billionaires" visit more of the congress members.

I wonder how many of the MN Reps have joined A.L.E.C.

16. State Senator Limmer(?) when informed that
the Billionaires in CA. could pay the deficit, responded: "Isn't that their money?"
We cant tax "their money" now can we? When did the progressive taxation end? Was that under "W"? It is idiotic and absolutely makes no financial sense.... that was stupid on my part.
NONE of the current economic policies "make Sense" unless you are wealthy and are determined to stay that way with no effort except getting a great return on your political investments (ie...buying politicians)

19. "Isn't it their money?"
Where the hell is that rationale when it comes to demanding more from teachers, social workers, the elderly, etc...?

Oh, and that lady's response was priceless - "You bet! We don't need education..."

This is so crazy, but today it's the crazy and the rich that get attention and support, while everyone else gets shat upon.

keep taxes low for the rich, tax breaks for corporations, and slash gov't programs.
