Now you can see why Obama flip-flopped on his campaign promise to stop targeting and raiding state-sanctioned medical marijuana outlets. The banksters aren't going to allow him to negatively impact one of their primary revenue streams. And these sleazy banksters make money off every aspect of drugs, from the drugs themselves -- to the money laundering of huge piles of cash from the drug distributors who ultimately work for them -- to the profits they make from incarcerating drug users and low level sellers in for profit prisons like the Corrections Corporation of America.

The truth has been right there in our faces from the beginning. Don't you doubt it for one minute. There is no war on drugs and there never has been.

On 10 April 2006, a DC-9 jet landed in the port city of Ciudad del Carmen, on the Gulf of Mexico, as the sun was setting. Mexican soldiers, waiting to intercept it, found 128 cases packed with 5.7 tons of cocaine, valued at $100m. But something else – more important and far-reaching – was discovered in the paper trail behind the purchase of the plane by the Sinaloa narco-trafficking cartel.

During a 22-month investigation by agents from the US Drug Enforcement Administration, the Internal Revenue Service and others, it emerged that the cocaine smugglers had bought the plane with money they had laundered through one of the biggest banks in the United States: Wachovia, now part of the giant Wells Fargo.

The authorities uncovered billions of dollars in wire transfers, traveller's cheques and cash shipments through Mexican exchanges into Wachovia accounts. Wachovia was put under immediate investigation for failing to maintain an effective anti-money laundering programme. Of special significance was that the period concerned began in 2004, which coincided with the first escalation of violence along the US-Mexico border that ignited the current drugs war.

Criminal proceedings were brought against Wachovia, though not against any individual, but the case never came to court. In March 2010, Wachovia settled the biggest action brought under the US bank secrecy act, through the US district court in Miami. Now that the year's "deferred prosecution" has expired, the bank is in effect in the clear. It paid federal authorities $110m in forfeiture, for allowing transactions later proved to be connected to drug smuggling, and incurred a $50m fine for failing to monitor cash used to ship 22 tons of cocaine.

...observation in a thread post earlier this week. Narcissistic-sociopathy seems to be the required mental state one must have in order to run for elective office these days. The system and TPTB will not support you otherwise This way they are assured that one is as defective as it is and as they are. This should surprise no one, however.

My harsh opinion is based on observation, reasoning and my own experience in the workplace.

For the tippy top guys - could the President of a for profit health insurance company, that perhaps "earns' up to $80,000 a day, is in the business of denying coverage by any means necessary so as to maximize profits. This can mean getting into the DEATH PANEL business, as they refined the art of denying coverage to make money, even if that meant the denial meant death for their insured. Now how can you make "business decisions" such as that if you have empathy for your fellow human being.

The same can be said of the last thirty years of corporate off shoring and down sizing. Whole viable productive communities wrecked not to make money, but because you can make more money! If they're smart enough to be in their roles as Captains of Industry, they're smart enough to understand the damage they are doing to people and America's future.

At my low level, I have seen the success of corporate sycophants. No talent empty suits that know how to kiss the ass of the big boss empty suit who is so frail in the ego he laps it up. Supporting all this top heavy managers usually means that The competent people in the organization that really get things done are viewed as a threat to the mediocre management. I think many mature companies are still viable simply because of the inertia of the good job that was done building the company up. I think companies reach a "critical mass" where the top people could eat live babies in the Executive Lunch Room and the operation would still be viable. Management thinks they are artfully running things, but the number of competent low level people still capable of good work is carrying the guys that contribute nothing. Indeed, they tend to wreck morale and make things worse.

I have also observed that the modern work place is so cut throat I think mediocre managers get rid of their people with talent the first chance they get, so as to eliminate a possible job rival. So the company drives off good talent to serve the frail ego of empty suit managers. The talent these mediocrities (or, as my hero Frank Zappa would say; "treacherous cretins") may have ends with landing their good job. Once that's done, it's do nothing but appear to be playing the game and sabotage the guys they don't like and reward the brown nosers. For example, the Wall Street bonus system appears to be institutionalized corruption. The low level guys there for checks and balances earn their bonuses for giving a free pass to the Executives unethical and/or illegal decisions. This results in a too big to fail organization comprised largely of greedy sociopaths.

So I hope my next job is an entrepreneurial start up. Talent and hard work and experience and accomplishment still hold value in such places. For a mature corporation, the main talent you need is how to survive in a cut throat work life where your colleagues are indeed out to get you.
