Dr. Michio Kaku, Theoretical Physicist: Fukishima Daiichi Nuclear Facility is a "Ticking Time Bomb"

The Japanese government is trying to calm fears about radiation levels and food safety in the region around the heavily damaged Fukushima Daiichi nuclear power facility, even as it has raised the severity rating of the crisis to the highest possible level. "Radiation is continuing to leak out of the reactors, the situation is not stable at all," says Dr. Michio Kaku, professor of theoretical physics at the City University Of New York and the City College of New York, in an interview on Democracy Now! April 13. "The slightest disturbance could set off a full scale melt down at three nuclear power stations—far beyond what we saw at Chernobyl."

12. Yes
I really think that Amy should be nominated for, and receive, a Nobel Peace Prize for her contributions to humanity. I have become a better, more informed person because of her diligence in broadcasting real news in a real manner.

5. MyTheory about Dr. Kaku
He had been on GMA at the beginning of this tragedy. I suspect that his message was so dire and his fix so "radical" that the Powers That Be cut him off from MSM appearances. Democracy Now is brilliant journalism, but it is not part of the MSM for sure!

http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=show_mesg&forum=102&topic_id=4799907&mesg_id=4801263

I could be wrong about his being "banned" from MSM. My wife says he used to be on GMA a lot, then disappeared. Maybe he just went over to Fox, so I would be oblivious to his other MSM appearances?

Food for thought, anyway.

8. That's what I think too. As MSM, is now Republican TV, it can't
allow any real news to emerge that might help the situation.

14. Goodman and Kaku also have known each other for some 20 years...
Goodman and Kaku were (are?) both longtime hosts for shows on WBAI, the Pacifica Network station in New York. Goodman's "Wake Up Call" morning news/interview program was eventually redeveloped for national distribution as Democracy Now!, and Kaku had (maybe still has, it's been a while) a weekly science show and was a frequent commentator on science issues.

7. Amazing!
The disaster is one thing.

"The Authorities" are really fucking up the response. Really, the magnitude of the bad tepid decisions to fix this are tantamount to mass murder.

And Dr. Kaku's message is not being heard or acted upon. It appears our good Dr. is being more and more marginalized by our MSM. Too bad his fix is not more corporate friendly, as it needs to be shouted from the rooftops all over the world!

It's like Mrs. Smith's Third Grade Science Class is making all the decisions here!

This is going to create illness and death for decades to come, well beyond the geography of Japan.

13. I trust Dr.Kaku.
The reactors need to be entombed. The cost would bankrupt TEPCO. An international consortium needs to step up take over and foot the cost with the Japanese government. The world can put the nuclear genie back in the bottle and save Japan and god only knows what else, but that will require admitting how dangerous the nuclear genie is. Remember, the Japanese moved from a feudal agricultural society to a global industrial power in 70 years and rebuilt their industrial base within twenty years of WWII. There are no people more resilient or able to change the course of their own destiny faster than the Japanese. Not only will they find a way to live without nukes, but they will prosper doing it and so should we. Banzai!

15. Dr. Kaku is telling too much truth for the MSM to broadcast this now.
But the MSM is not the place to find TRUTH anyway. So thank you sir. And thank you Amy Goodman for continuing to speak truth to power.

- And you democracy1st for making the post.....

16. He also said that the Cassini mission would wipe out life on earth.
I don't let my kids watch TV shows on which this self proclaimed "Mr. Wizard" discusses his version of science.

I'm not particularly interested in them learning from the likes of him about the "Physics of Star Wars."

He'd been OK as a cartoon, but as an arbiter of science education, he's um, no http://www.lbl.gov/Science-Articles/Archive/glenn-seaborg-obit.html">Glenn Seaborg.

It's pretty funny how anti-nuke mystics trust this surfer dude and have very, very, very, very, very little knowledge of who Glenn Seaborg was and what he accomplished.

21. He's not a "self-proclaimed Mr. Wizard" - that's really a baseless charge. It's
not as though other scientists don't err -- repeatedly. More importantly, he's willing to look at possibilities outside the status quo - something that's not looked kindly upon in the scientific community. He's willing to take the risk.

His creds speak loudly, and he presents info in ways that I can understand.

Even though many of us may not be familiar with Seaborg, I've no doubt Kaku knows exactly who he was. And ooooooh, aren't you smart that you DO know who he is. Sure put us in our places. :eyes:

23. Sorry, I have to call bullshit on this
Mr. Kaku never claimed that the Cassini mission "would wipe out life on Earth." Care to back that up with a link?

What he did say was that thousands of people could die if there were an accident, and plutonium were released into the atmosphere. He also gives quite a bit of info to back up his prediction. Saying that something could happen is quite a bit different than saying it will happen.

But if you don't trust me, go ahead and read for yourself:

http://www.animatedsoftware.com/cassini/mk9707fl.htm

http://www.animatedsoftware.com/cassini/mk9708so.htm

Read through those links, Michio Kaku's own words, and tell me where he says that it would "wipe out life on earth".
