US troops fire on Iraqi detainees after burning their Holy Quran books in front of them. Amateur footage recently posted on the internet shows American troops firing live ammunition on Iraqi prisoners during a riot in a US detention facility in Iraq back in 2005.

The footage shows US forces using disproportionate force and live rounds against prisoners at the US prison facility Camp Bucca located in Iraq.

The Iraqi detainees were protesting the American troops' desecration of Islam's holy book, the Qur'an.
At the time, the US military tried to cover up the bloodshed, saying the riot happened when the prisoners confronted a search for contraband in the prison.

But the American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU) later revealed that the real cause of the riot was the desecration of the Holy Qur'an by US troops.

Four prisoners were shot dead and five others wounded during the violence.

In 2008, the US military revealed that it held a total of around 20,000 detainees, some 17,000 of whom at Camp Bucca near Basra in southern Iraq, and more than 3,000 others at Camp Cropper in the capital Baghdad.

1. Oh my. Sorry. As representatives of the country
Ya just can't do this.:(

However, I am absolutely certain there will be apologists by any minute to tell us it is "just a book".

3. Yup...
"Just a bunch of our good ole boys exercising their 'freedom of speech' rights"... :sarcasm:

I too am profoundly sorry to have to claim these cretins and others that would defend such acts as Americans.

7. I seriously doubt their will be apologists on this unless they are paid trolls

This is seriously bad if this is true and the soldiers did that, I think every one here will agree.

of the Florida Pastor where those DUers who criticized his actions--while recognizing his legal right to do so-- were derided in quite unpleasant terms. Those Quoran-burning actions were likewise defended with some pretty vile anti-Muslim bigotry on full display.

What is your point? Are you ready to discredit an entire news organization? Do you have sources, references to substantiate your disapproval?

6. Youre in very select company here if you think PressTV is at all reliable
Even DUers who defend RT (which is much savvier, though still essentially bullshit) will tell you PressTV is a joke.

10. Press TV is the Iranian state propaganda outlet
But that's sort of beside the point, by posting a 6 year old video your just shit stirring for no apparent reason as far as I can see.

I think most people already know that. Post PressTV all you want, just don't be surprised if you're alone in believing anything they say.

25. Was the National Enquirer lying about John Edwards?
Just because an outlet gets a story right now and then doesn't mean they should be trusted.

27. you're kidding, right?
You do realize that the opposite argument is just as valid?

Just because an outlet has questionable sponsers doesn't mean they should never be trusted.

Public Broadcasting, (PBS) programs are sponsered by David H. Koch & Monsanto, Wal-Mart etc, etc...

Should I not support PBS?

28. Look. It's pretty simple
PressTV is Iranian propaganda. Perhaps you you like the views of the Islamic Republic. Iran is certainly against the exercise of American power, so if you want to post PressTV videos that support that position, then do so . . . but most of the rest of us know what PressTV is really about, which is an entirely illiberal view of the world. If that's your thing, then go for it, but I'm not buying it.

I am well aware of who the powers behind Press TV are.

Rachel Maddow worked for one of the largest weapons manufactures in America and now she works for the company that want to privatize the internet.

Should I not trust what Rachel Maddie has to say?

How can you possibly discern the idea that I believe anything they say"? I found this video out in the ether and decided to share it with the super friendly folks at DEMOCRATIC underground. Here it is, do with the information as you please but I assure you that attacking the messenger is not productive.

Can I safely assume that you also make it your mission to criticize the western media when they spread questionable ideas about Iran and Iraq?

9. I call BS on this video.
On 31 January 2005, a riot broke out in which detainees threw rocks and fashioned weapons out of tent poles. The riot was dispelled by the use of lethal force. Four detainees were killed and six were injured. As is standard procedure in all cases of prison riots and the use of lethal force, the matter was investigated by the U.S. Army’s Criminal Investigations Division. The investigation concluded that a detainee leader had incited the riot by making an accusation that camp soldiers were stepping on Korans during a search for contraband. No soldiers were found guilty of any wrongdoing during the incident.<3>

Why someone would even post this propaganda is beyond me.

14. There's NO Quran burning in that video.
Nobody got shot, either. They were aiming at other things than people. Further, there's an officer telling them to knock it the fuck off in the video, which then repeats the shooting sequences. This is crap!

There are many things that should be told. This is not one of them. Bogus.

16. He's telling them to knock of the shooting. They're not in any
danger. They stop. But the video loops back to the shooting again. It's deliberately deceptive. Nobody was killed during that video. They were shooting at the freaking buildings.

This video is completely bogus. No Quran burning. No dead people. Officer tells them to knock it off.

It's pure inflammatory crap.

There is nothing good happening in Iraq. We should never have gone there and should leave forthwith. But this crap is manufactured and incorrect.

It does not belong on DU.
