27. At first few hands went up. Luntz started propagandizing

and then more and more joined the bandwagon. These sessions are psychological operations, nothing more.

Further, these people must watch nothing but Fox News. They apparently never heard Obama's repeated statements that he would find Bin Laden and get him.

In addition, I have a sneaking suspicion that the members of the Bush administration did know where Bin Laden was, that they learned that he was under Pakistani surveillance if not protection and that he was quite ill and being treated in a hospital near a military installation. Don't know that for a fact. But I have fairly good reasoning ability, and I look at the map of the location of Obama's villa, and I have a hard time explaining where it is and how close it is to an urban area and an important Pakistani military base and a hospital, and I just don't see any other reasonable conclusion. The question is simply "When did our government figure out for sure that he was there?" Did the Bush administration know? Did they make some sort of deal? Did our government protect Bin Laden because of the intelligence they hoped to gather if he thought he was undetected?

These, as I said, are just guesses that I draw from the very limited information I have. Part of that information is the puzzling reaction of people like Condi Rice. It's as though she feels that her virtue in not going after Bin Laden is being unfairly punished. Why can't these people just be honest about things?


I have difficulty trying to construct a hypothetical based on the theory that the Bush administration did not know where he was. If they had not known, I think they would have shown more joy and surprise that he was found and killed.

On edit, there is also a possibility that the Bush administration thought, as I did, that Bin Laden had died some years ago of wounds or natural causes or at the hand of someone close to him. Apparently, that was wrong. I think if this were the case, people like Condoleeza Rice would have shown more surprise at the recent events, not this sort of, hey, where's our credit attitude. That attitude is inconsistent with the way the chronology of these events is being presented.
