Democracy NOW! DN! - The Obama administration launched a drone strike in Yemen last week in an attempt to assassinate a U.S.-born Muslim cleric who has never been convicted of a crime. Anwar al-Awlaki survived the attack, but two suspected members of Al Qaeda died. It was reported to be the first U.S. drone strike in Yemen in nine years. "It is illegal to kill a U.S. citizen in Yemen, outside of armed conflict, without any due process," says Maria LaHood of the Center For Constitutional Rights. The attempted assassination of al-Awlaki comes just days after U.S. special forces executed Osama bin Laden and NATO planes bombed Libyan leader Col. Muammar Gaddafi's compound, killing his son and three grandchildren. 1. You mean that fucker that tells his little followers to kill Americans?
Edited on Mon May-09-11 07:32 PM by cliffordu
THAT GUY???

I have no problem with anyone saying "go kill so and so"

just as long as they are willing to strap on the vest or pick up a rifle themselves. Kudos to a hardhead like that..

This fucking dude? The "YOU GO KILL AMERICANS, BUT I'LL STAY HERE BECAUSE I'M A RELIGIOUS ROCK STAR" ??

Not so much. He wants war with 'Murka??? Fabulous. We Deliver.

3. Rather....
America
concord's northern stones
forgotten plots in fishkill
sacrifice her antique price

blinded by wrath suffused by lust
blood defiles marmorean floors
as wanton hands
rend laws from her tender flesh

America

Normandy's precious stones
bittersweet rows in Arlington,
name her hard dowry

Numbed by sloth, violated by greed
tears stain blooded gutters
as corporate grooms
service our weary bride.

**********************

Fail as a lesson, but still...

Nice throw.

7. Mocking - definitely not....
I would not have spent the time on reworking the form to fit my message if it were not an interesting form. Besides, disagreements here frequently become fairly acrimonious. I thought that something different was called for. Poetry works as commentary, sometimes.

A Comparative Analysis of America

Orthography
In mine, aside from the possessive case, punctuation is dropped as is capitalization. This - with the right word choice - sometimes makes the result vague.
In yours, punctuation and capitalization are used.

Line Count by Strophe
(Mine); Yours
(3); 3
(4); 4

Syllable Count by Line
(Mine); Yours; Common Words
(5); 6; stones
(7); 8; in
(7); 5; her

(8); 9; by...by
(8); 6; ....
(4); 5; as
(7); 6; ....

Thematically, there is a large amount of similarity, but the final message is different in each poem.

Common Thematic Considerations
American Revolutionary War versus World War II
America as a Bride
Bride Price versus Dowry
Various Instances of the Seven Deadly Sins
Various Actors Guilty of Differing Abuses

So, no derision is intended, but the message was fitted to a form that you would recognize. I honestly do not know if this would be considered plagiarism. What is your call on that?

8. Well.....
That is the most elegant dissection of anything I have ever written, like EVER, and I am flattered to have someone take so much time and effort to do what you have done.

In fairness I have to say you have spent a fuck of a lot more time dissecting it than I did writing it.

All I can say about THAT is: I had an itch.

Yours is delicious and dense and perl-handled. Maybe even ornate.

Mine is a tattoo of a parachute --- a bruise above my left nipple.

Yours goes further back to what the founders intended, of course -

Maybe I didn't go back far enough.....

I am jaded by the Pynchon view of the world - that it changed in WWII - from cause and effect: Newton's physics, to Einstien's process of energy and mass......from nation/states running their wars to a multinational corporation selling Germans periscope optics, while selling the Norden bomb sight optics to the Americans......Multinationals running the entire show now, our nation/states being oblivious as doped brides........

But I think that is obvious and maybe my explanation is trite......

But plagiarism?

Nah. Have at it.

9. $ 1.2 trillion per year on military has to have...
some enemies and wars to keep the money flowing. More people die due to unaffordable health care, corporations dumbing their toxic waste in our land, water, and air, and lack of decent paying jobs.
