1. Edwards is not waiting until after the election to bring about real change!
Time to end the game. NOW.

Good on Edwards for standing up to the corrupt corporate Washington insiders!

2. Exactly where is that announcement made?
The post seems to be a bait-and-switch, offering a clip of Edwards making a statement on public financing... but actually presenting a complete interview.

grrr.

4. This is exactly what i've been talking about...
CAMPAIGN FINANCE REFORM. Tattoo it on you're foreheads!!! There is NO WAY, not maybe, not slightly, NO WAY AT ALL to stop, not decrease, but stop, outsourcing, pollution, political corruption, erosion of workers rights and many other evils that affect our economy while our legislators, our weapons against these corporate entities, are beholden to the very institutions that are poisoning our air, driving up costs for healthcare and medicine, deliberately avoiding using sustainable technologies and so forth. Legislation is our weapon, and to use it freely our legislators cannot be mired by a responsibility to those they must regulate, which in practice seems to, across the board, trump the greatest responsibility they have, namely to the American taxpayer. Moreover, federally funded campaigns would give an equal platform so people like Kucinich or Nader could ACTUALLY have a chance and as our parties are starting to increasingly resemble one another I think our democracy can only benefit from diversity.

5. Bless John Edwards
I love John Edwards for taking on this issue. And for taking on the lobbyists and for taking on our whole corrupt system. This is awesome! Thanks for posting.

6. This comment is a little off topic, but
I love the way he immediately waves to someone outside the bus as it travels along, then explains to Candy that someone waved to him! He may have been about to give a huge announcement, but responding to a supporter was still uppermost in his mind.

The one thing I do know about campaign finance is that it was designed to give real citizens some power against wealthy special interests. This decision means that my modest contributions (up to $250) will be doubled.

I look forward to having a president who is not indebted to insurance and oil companies. President Edwards will make decisions based on what will help his constituents, the American people, the most.

16. He's been known to stop that bus too !
Remember the little boy with the sign? He got out to say hi, shake his hand and thank him for the effort of making the sign.

This will never be on the MSM, will it? :silly:

11. He's full of it and is only taking public financing because he didn't raise
Edited on Fri Sep-28-07 10:14 AM by FrenchieCat
enough money....

He opt out in February of this year.....because then he thought campaign financing wasn't quite that important.....not as important as being "competitive"......
Edwards latest to decline public funds for presidential campaign
http://www.usatoday.com/news/washington/2007-02-05-edwards-money_x.htm

and now, he's opt back in......because he wants to make a "principled stand"...or so he says,
Edwards says he'll accept public financing
http://www.cnn.com/2007/POLITICS/09/27/edwards.public.financing/index.html

and states with a straight and sincere face....."This is NOT about a money calculation....This is about taking a stand, a principled stand, and I believe in public financing."

He might call it a "principled Stand" on a worthy issue, but in reality it is nothing more than a political neccessity for John Edwards...which wouldn't matter so much to me......IF he didn't at the same time also call out his Dem opponents, as though he's doing what he's doing for all of the right reasons, when that is not true.

Then Edwards supporters jump up and down and make statements like.....See, this is why I love John Edwards! the man is a blessing, he's a real progressive, He waves so nicely, etc.......

Yeah....OK....What-E-ver! :eyes:

so much hypocracy from St. John while his blinded supporters adoringly follow so closely behind him that they can't even see their own nose.

12. Oh, and by the way.....Trippi is full of shit as well.......
cause this is what he was saying on Public Financing in a presidential election when he worked for Howard Dean......

"But entering federal financing system has two major drawbacks. There's an overall spending limit for the primaries, so a campaign that blows through its money would be bankrupt until after its convention, allowing the opposing party's candidate to air television ads without rebuttal.

What he said about Edwards' campaign in 2003, while working for Dean, Trippi also said...."This campaign believes that any Democratic campaign that opted into the matching-funds system has given up on the general election.”

http://www.cnn.com/2007/POLITICS/09/27/edwards.public.financing/index.html

But of course Now, Trippi is saying something quite different.

Meanwhile, Edwards is a millionaire who could self finance himself, but has chosen to take taxpayers dollars instead, and claims that he is doing so for altruistic reasons....when the reason is he'd rather not spend his own money on a risky proposition if he can suck at the government tit. But he wants us to believe in him.....but he doesn't even want to take the gamble if it's out of his pocketbook.. But, then again, I'm not surprised. He is a politician first and foremost after all!

14. "suck at government tit"
Who are you supporting again?

Actually, becoming President would be a severe pay cut for him. And I'm not sure why anyone would want to clean up George's mess, more power to him and all the other Dem candidates for wanting sloppy seconds.

17. public financing is the only way towards change
As long as candidates opt out of public financing, they are saying that corporations are more important than the ordinary people. I hope John is our candidate.
